When the gate to the lodge opened we had no idea of what to expect. A drive along a drive of a approximately 100 meters, bordered by trees, took us to the entrance of the lodge. The common area comprises a number of spaces, from dining to library to the pool (about 20 meters long). The accommodation is spacious, very comfortable with the bathroom being in the open. Eclectic is the word for the furnishing, especially of the common areas. The food, both breakfast and dinner, are excellent. The host is ever so helpful and made us immediately feel at home. The beach can be reached either by a 20 minute kayak paddle or a 10 minute walk. The resident pet is a cow roaming the grounds. A thoroughly enjoyable and relaxing stay.

We loved our stay at Myrjam’s and Leo’s place. Rooms are real nice, cool and clean, including a very unique bathroom, taking a shower in the open air!

Lodges are situated in a jungle garden, on the shores of a like where you can use a canoe to paddle yourselves to the sea!

Hostess and host are really nice people from Belgium who can cook really great!

Very much worth the money to start/end your Sri Lankan journey!

Our second visit and nothing has changed since we were here 2 years ago - and nor should it change, because one can't improve on perfection - and for our tastes Ging Oya Lodge is as close to Sri Lankan perfection as is possible. Its not for those looking for hustle and bustle or glitz and glamour, but for anyone who wants a superb setting, with tranquility, nature and lots to do locally, then this place is for you. And, for the quality of the place and what it offers, in all respects, Ging Oya Lodge is exceptionally reasonably priced.

Room Tip: All rooms (self contained cabins) are equally good.

This is the type of authentic, eco-friendly accommodation we love. As soon as we arrived we felt relaxed. The owners have created this hidden oasis of calm and serenity and they should be very proud of their achievements. Gingoya Lodge is very good value for money. It is quite a classy and upmarket place, with lots of attention to detail, very understated with colonial style dining and seating areas with quality furniture. Their website is very good but from the photos you just cannot appreciate how wonderful the setting is. It's an absolute paradise and completely exceeded our expectations. The detached bungalow accommodation is spacious, clean and well presented overlooking the river. A nice touch was the fine muslin netting over the comfy queen size bed, which is a nice alternative to the normal mesh nets. We still got bitten by the pesky mosquitos. The room had good a/c, fan, tea and coffee making facilities, mini fridge and wall safe. The ensuite was outdoorsy, but had plenty of hot water. The room was cleaned everyday with fresh towels provided. Leo's Breakfasts and 3 course set evening meals were delicious and surprisingly very good quality and great value for money. The entire dining experience was lovely with nice cutlery and crockery, plus service with a smile from Myrjam. The owners work hard to provide for your needs and always with great passion. You can feel the love that they have put into this place. The pool was wonderful to cool off in with high quality sunbed furniture. Watching the resident pet cow drinking from the pool was quite surreal. You can use the free kayaks and take a trip down the river to the ocean, there are even bicycles you can use. It was a real treat to see all the wildlife on a 20 minute paddle down the Gingoya River. You can take a tuk tuk into the centre of Negumbo for about 900 rupees each way. The only slight improvements I could suggest would be put some signage up at the end of the road so taxis can find the place, strengthen the the weak wifi signal/speed, discourage the dogs in the dining area and have a better payment system other than cash. Overall, this was an ideal way to unwind near the airport after or before a long flight, away from the hustle and bustle of Negumbo and Sri Lankan life and to relax at this wonderful peaceful retreat away from it all.
