We stayed at the Gladiola Star the first week in July 2014. Most of the recent reviews here are correct. This hotel caters to young (mostly German) teens. The ones we talked to were still in high school. The come here to party. This is not a hotel for families.
The room we were given had an airconditioning malfunction and the room was so hot. After talking multiple times with the reception desk, they finally got a technician to fix it the next day. We even requested another room, but they stated there were no other rooms. The room was not in the best condition with stained carpets and dirty walls.
The music plays until the early morning hours and after that, the young people all come back drunk & being loud in the hallways. The restaurant is shared between the three gladiola hotels and is always busy. You must stand in line to get into the restaurant and then once you find a table, you must wait in line again for food. The food was mediocre at best.

Room Tip: If you have kids, a room at the rear is a must. The noise level is LOUD in front.

I've just returned from this Hotel after 2 weeks stay, the only criticism is that they allow All Male Groups, which is not suitable for couples and children, as they are very noisy, in the restaurant, bars and corridors at night, returning from night clubs around 4-5am being noisy and continually knocking doors, only had a couple of nights good sleep because of them. The guests were 95% German or Slavs, only a dozen or so English in around 500 guests. The transfer from airport took far too long, it was supposed to be 2-21/2 hours, but in reality was more like 31/2-4 hours, as they used the airport which was furthest from the Hotel instead of using the one which was only 20 minutes away. Some Hotels in Spain for example do not allow all male drunken groups (Lager Louts), they should put them all together in one Hotel so not to interfere with normal holiday makers. The low price of the overall holiday attracted us, but it apparently attracts the wrong type of guests.

Room Tip: You do not have any choice where you are put, at the front it's noisy from Bars and Discos, at the back its still noisy from drunken male groups returning late.

Room Tip: get room at back of hotel no sun but less noise

Hotel has a very central locations, beside shops the beach and bars.  Due to its location you will experience a lot of noise from the bars right through to the early hours of the morning.  Requesting a room at the rear of the hotel will stop any noise from the bars but will mean you over look trees, it's definitely worth not having a few to avoid the noise.

Air con in the room isn't proper air con, it's more like a fan in the wall, it can be very noisy!
Rooms are quite large, showers are quite cool no matter what time of day you use it.
The hotel doesn't have any entertainment, a lot of the guests gather in the reception area to use the free wifi service.

Rooms cleaned daily, bed linen changed every few days and towels changed daily.  Cleaning staff are very friendly.

Bar staff are very different some very miserable and some lovely and friendly.  All inclusive meals and drinks stop literally to the minute as advertised even if you are in the queue before it ends.
Big measures on alcoholic drinks are served at all bars in the hotel.
Often long queues in restaurants, staff are quick to clear tables though.  Food topped up regular, never had to wait for items to be brought out.
Food is typically catered for foreign guests.

Limited sun at the hotel and round the pool, 11-3 oh get most sun rest is shaded.  Beach is close enough and has the sun all day.  You can use the malibu beach bar on the beach throughout the day.

Fitness room isn't great internally has 3 machines.

Bars and restaurants around the beach front are more expensive than the ones located slighty away from the hotel.

Resort itself has limited English visitors, most bars and restaurants do have english speaking staff.
Steak house lights serves lovely meals at reasonable prices.
Mama Mia steak house is good to watch sports.
Tip top restaurants is lovely, friendly staff.
Lots of pubs have happy hour 2 for 1 on cocktails pretty much all day every day, shots 15 for 10 lev.

Lots of little units serving pizza slices 3 lev, kebabs 5 lev and ice cream 1 lev around the resort.

You are charged to go to the toilet whilst out in resort, make sure you have change with you.  Often you are charged in clubs too even after you have paid an entry fee.  It's only a small charge.

Water ports on the beach are good, jet skis approx 60 lev for 15 minutes, parasailing approx 80 lev for 15 minutes.  You are charged for sun beds and parasols on the beach approx 8 lev.
Reverse bungee available at the rear of the hotel approx 25 lev per person.

Room Tip: Request a room at the rear of the hotel to avoid noise from the bars opposite.
