Dinner was outstanding with choices that I recognized from my Scottish mother's repertoire. Selection is limited but we still had a hard time not choosing one of everything. Service was attentive and the waitress was amenable to a short chat.

Breakfast was very Scottish and the oatcakes were so good we complimented the chef and got the recipe. Also, the porridge bread French toast is a winner.

Although the dinner menu is excellent we often travel there for breakfast (advanced reservations recommended if you are not staying overnight.) Cold buffet breakfast with homemade porridge bread , oatcakes, fruit preserves , homemade granola etc. Hot dishes on request...omelets, porridge, traditional breakfast or "Eggs Hughie D" Selection of juices, yogurt etc.

Dinner was by reservation only and although the hotel was quiet, the dining room was very busy.. our waitress, the only one for the 7 tables was very pleasant, very efficient and running!! Food was delicious, and menu had minimal see tons but variations..young lady at reservation desk, was very helpful in dining room as well.. a very pleasant experience and yes would you believe at least 4 tables were on their phones.. that is usually a no,no for us but we wanted to see scores of the Bluejays game!!!

The Inn is out of the way and not something you'd be likely to happen upon otherwise but still easy access once you know where it is. The grounds are impressive as you drive down a long treed lane way to a a 1920's lodge style building where we had dinner. The service was attentive although we did feel we were being rushed a little. The food was good although not exceptional. The real fun was afterwards where we enjoyed listening to an excellent fiddler in the living room which felt like being in someone's home in a private gathering. We would certainly recommend the whole experience as a good night out when you are in the area.

This location had been recommended by a friend in Nova Scotia and the Information Center at the entrance to Cape Breton made the booking for us as they said most accommodations on the Cabot Trail were sold out. The location is well off the main road but there are adequate signs. Very rustic and we stayed in the cabins. Restaurant was very nice and had limited but sufficient dinner offerings. The dining room was well staffed and very busy. The food selection was limited but sufficient. Quality of food and presentation was better than average.
