Disgraceful hotel. How they include this as part of the St Regis brand is utterly beyond me. Anyone who has stayed at the St Regis Rome, NYC, Aspen, San Francisco etc know's the Punta Mita property is light years behind.

Our stay of 1 week was wrecked by a number of outrageous situations. The 1st was 2 large groups essentially took over the hotel for their annual "President's Club" get together. This means forget about any other paying guests. Bars (which there are few) closed early to prepare for these gatherings. Restaurants closed or were now limited. We essentially had to look offsite for food options.

2nd - 2 days of the stay 1/3 of the hotel was closed for "renovations". Suddenly you have no pool or beach beds available given this restriction. No apologies just look of "I don't know what to say".

Apparently, this is only a 10-year-old property. Was it ever actually completed to St Regis level expectations? This place is dated.

We will be seeking a full refund for this overpriced joke of a property. Go next door and try the 4 Seasons. Perhaps you will have better luck.

All the great reviews are accurate and more. We arrived to margarita’s and relaxed at the best view at hotel. The finest check in at any hotel. Our room was near the main pool and we asked to be moved to family pool. They were very kind and moved us next to pool. Room was very large for the money. Slept great!!!! Comfortable bed and room darkened to pitch black. Extremely restful room. We loved the outdoor shower.
Everyone at the hotel was extremely helpful. Great drinks at every location.
Surfed in front of hotel every day.
Awesome stay and can not wait to get back!

Valeria did a great job in accomodating to supply a bottle of KRUG champagne and a sable for me to "sable" it.
The Barbecue on Fridays on the beach is a very pleasant experience. Great sevice. Great food. Unmatched location and property. The beach is great to take a dive.

We returned for our children's spring break, spending a full week at the resort. This was our 3rd time here. Check in was seamless as we received our customary margaritas in the lobby. Given a screw up at the airport, we arrived much later than anticipated. And while our butler had made dinner reservations at Sufi that night, he gladly canceled them so we could eat at Seabreeze (more later).

We were given room 1603, an oceanview 1 bedroom suite (~1200 sq ft). The room was on the extreme edge of the property, but it featured really nice views of the ocean along with the golf course. While spacious, I think the rooms are tired and are in dire need of a refresh - hence the rating deduction.

As for service, our experience was somewhat mixed. At the adult pool, we received immediate attention. Yet at the kids pool, some days we got attentive service while other days, the service was lax and slow. On a few occasions, no one was in sight as we wanted to order lunch for our kids. That said, the breakfast at Seabreeze is good and the service is top notch. Also, the butlers also made great recommendations on meals to order at the restaurants to book (e.g., Rosa, Sufi, etc.), and they were spot on.

Other Pros
- Kids club is fantastic as we dropped our kids off in the mornings after breakfast and retrieved them at ~noon. They kids enjoyed all the activities such as pinata making, animal show, etc. Our kids also went in the afternoon to their AC facility a couple times which was also good.
- SPG Kids pass is a must as it allows your kids to eat off of the kids menu whenever they want for a fixed daily fee. It makes life easy. Although, it would be nice if they had a few more options. The resort does cater to kids by bringing around popsicles, popcorn, etc.
- Even though it was near full, the resort never feels full as we were always able to get prime pool chairs and shade.

I enjoy the St. Regis, and I also like that we can explore places like San Pancho, Lo de marcos, etc. for PV 30 years ago. But, I think they need to update their rooms and solidify some of the service lapses.

The St. Regis in Punta Mita tops the charts among the hotels of that chain, but if that is true, then it will be the last St. Regis that we stay at.

They present themselves as a luxury resort with FS style amenities and service. Do not believe it. Having been to a few, believe me when I say that there is only one FS.

Let me begin by saying that the St. Regis Punta Mita is beautiful. The grounds and buildings are wonderful, it’s the people that need some work. In order to get good service however, it would seem that one needs to be in the know, Starwood Platinum, throw money around like it’s going out of style, know the right people or drop the right names (if you are one of those, then you probably don't need this review, as you are already taken care of). Whenever we have stayed at FS, all the guests are treated equally well.

Upon arrival, you get a tasty margarita while going through paperwork, etc. This may be part of their tactic, get people drunk enough to not care about anything else (or to tip better). After being taken to our connecting rooms, we were left to unpack. The first thing we noticed were a few dead bugs laying around the room (not the best start). At least the beds are comfortable and the rooms are nice, except for the fixtures hanging out of the wall and the exposed electric…

Every room is assigned a butler to assist with any needs, which can be helpful. You can text him for things from tea to restaurant reservations. Speaking of restaurants, we ate at Sea Breeze twice for dinner during our week stay, and it was delicious. Sea Breeze is also where the breakfast buffet is, for 48USD per person, so if you can get a bed and breakfast deal, take it. While you would think that a week interacting with the same butlers (one day, one evening) day after day, some sort of rapport would develop, but no. When our eldest daughter contracted some sort of stomach bug three days into our stay, their attitude was simply: oh well, this happens sometimes, even after we had to have them bring the doctor to our room to treat her.

Not to keep comparing to the FS, but when we arrived at one of their establishments, our younger daughter (they are not as accident prone as it sounds) had hurt her finger en route and it was in a bandage after a visit to urgent care… the staff at FS acted as if they had personally injured her, and special treatment followed throughout our stay: treats, staff asking her by name how she was feeling, free in-room movie credits, etc., and this was for something that they were in no way remotely responsible for, they just wanted to make sure that their guest was happy… not so at the St. Regis. All of the “standard” goodies for the kids (evening cookies and milk, etc., don’t count on them. Nothing happens here unless you are pushy and demanding. The staff here want big tips, they just don’t want to work for them (unless you are someone they know to be a VIP).

We tend to be friendly and outgoing with the staff when on vacation, we practice our foreign language skills (if abroad) and chat with the staff whenever appropriate. Members of the St. Regis staff rarely make eye contact or say hello, and the other guests are just as bad. From what we saw, they are a bunch of entitled, self-centered and aloof people, which combine to make the entire stay an unfriendly experience. Insincere staff (who at times even scoffed at my wife for asking for waters at the pool/beach area; this is because we aren’t big drinkers, and so won’t run up a huge tab every day, and who would want to get drunk in front of their kids? Oh, most of the other people there, that’s who!). Speaking of the pool areas, the water does not circulate and there is barely a hint of chlorine (and no, they are not salt-water pools, either)… with all that is going on in those pools (swim diapers, etc.)… that’s kind of gross. We saw some guys “servicing the pool one day, in the middle of the day surrounded by guests. One guy carried some filters around looking confused, the other poured the bottom two inches of fluid from a bottle into the pool (with guests in it) and walked away. No measuring of levels, and really, a pool that measures easily 1000 square feet probably needs more than the bottom dregs of a bottle of whatever that was.

The service is also VERY inconsistent. We ordered in-room tea from our butler every evening. Sometimes we would get little cookies on the saucers, sometimes not; sometimes there would be milk, sometimes not; sometimes there were not even any saucers under the teacups. The service is like this throughout the resort: you get what you get depending on the mood or attentiveness of the staff at the moment, there seem to be no standards or consistency. We couldn’t even receive the daily resort newspaper, that we requested twice. Even my SPG discount only appeared on my food bills some of the time. The staff also don’t bother to inform guests of need-to-know information.

For example, we arrived a couple of days before Easter and were told that Sea Breeze would be out only open breakfast spot. So on Sunday we walked down only to find it closed until lunch. Another of the resort restaurants would be doing breakfast that day, because it was Sunday (or Easter Sunday, I still don’t know). This would have been nice to know ahead of time, before we wandered around, searching for where we could eat, but there was no announcement, no reminder from the butler (a text the night before would have avoided this confusion, could have been easy. This may be one of the main takeaways, the infrastructure is there, but no-on wants to make the effort to make the guests feel cared about. Even the new GM, he does not talk to the guests when walking the property, just high-fives the staff and hangs out, taking pictures of the menus. I must have passed him four or five times during our stay, barely a hello, never a “how is your stay going” or anything like that, sad.

If you are ever choosing between FS and St. Regis, well, by now I think you know what this traveler’s suggestion would be… one last thing, even all of the available activities (paddle boarding, snorkeling, etc. are 40 dollars per person per hour, not so in other resorts, where things are actually included as a part of your stay, what a concept!

Even our 9-year-old commented on the lack of respect we received! I could go on, but this has gotten long enough already, thank you, readers, if you have read this far.

At the end of our stay at check-out, there was no “How was you stay?” “Did you enjoy your visit with us?”… nothing, literally: “here is your bill,” “may I have your credit card,” “please sign,” and “buen viaje”. For the amount of money that a week here costs, really? Even average road-side motels in the US ask you how your night was when you leave. Here they just. don’t. care.
