At breakfast a surley, ,brusque girl left us for over 20 mins until I complained before she came through & said she would have to get a notepad & pen! Could hear the kitchen staff laughing & swearing but obviously not cooking.

Was here last year & had a great experience so think it must have have changed hands as there is an equally grumpy old lady who books you in & not friendly.

Won't be returning & rooms at the front are very noisy with deliveries from 5am, only one bedside table & poor lighting in the room, strange arrays of teas but none only a couple of proper tea bags.

Room Tip: Ask for the stables at the back

We visited Tarporley today and called into The Swan for lunch. It is a lovely establishment, very clean and welcoming. The menu is very varied, we ordered the chicken in the basket for 2, fantastic food, we'll definitely visit again next time we are in the area.

A nice OLD Hotel. Good service, good food, but .... front rooms in hotel have a lot of road noise otherwise a friendly atmosphere. Can recommend the breakfast obviously a good meeting place as the locals frequented it.

I stayed in The Swan last night.

Positives: It is clean, the staff are really lovely and they let me check in after hours so I could be on time for work. All in all very accommodating.

Negatives: There was one lamp on my room and it didn't have a lightbulb, which isn't very useful.
The shower was more like a light drizzle and varied between lukewarm and freezing.
My bacon and maple syrup pancakes had never seen any maple syrup and when I asked for some the waitress said "yes no worries" and never came back. Plus the pancake had a strange bitter taste to it, like it had been made with spelt flour or something... gross!

We stayed here to break our journey to Holyhead, the room was quite small and cramped, the hotel could have done with a lick of paint as everywhere looked worn.
In fairness the hotel was very busy with all public rooms well used.
We had a nice meal in one of their side rooms and enjoyed the ambience in the bar afterwards. Unfortunately when we came to settle the bill the next morning, it appeared twice as much as we were expecting, the girl said she would call the manager and he was able to reduce it. However it was still not right and on the third go we succeeded,
at no stage was there any sign of an apology which did leave us unhappy. Training of staff in this area would help.
