This was a first class hotel and we were so looking forward to the week end visit. The reception staff, and hotel staff were extremely helpful and well mannered. The let down was the food in the dining room. It was bland ,tasteless and over cooked. How this restaurant has a rosette for its food leaves me speechless. They also ran out of fish on the Friday night, how can you run out of fish in a supposedly first class dining establishment ?. Any one who has read my previous reports on hotel dining, will know that I rate the food as a top priority. This experience was ranked as one of the worst I have come across to date. The final insult was the wi fi did not work in the bedroom.Sadly, we will not be staying there again.

At a discounted rate we stayed DBB for 3 nights at this hotel in an excellent lake facing room, with balcony. Great and very clean and well serviced room, great meals, but most of all it needs to be said how friendly the entire staff we met were. Nothing was too much trouble, they were overall the best we have met throughout many worldwide journeys. Take a bow please - everyone of you, seen and unseen, who did so much to provide client satisfaction and happiness.

There is construction going on but they did warn us. The hotel has old school charm and staff were friendly. We especially loved our welcome our little Boston terrier was made to feel. They have rules which are fair regarding pets. But the lounge that is dog themed and dog friendly is so cute. They also have a chefs special for dogs!
For us we had a romantic stay ate so well, and had the most gorgeous walks.
Our stay was lovely in a beautiful part of the world.

We booked a fell side room, lovely size and great sized balcony. We were the opposite side to the new spa being built, so no noise etc. Whole hotel exceptionally clean, very dog friendly, which is always a relief. The Derwent ferry is just across the road and there is a bus stop right outside. We did the short walk to the falls behind the hotel which were in full flow. Restaurant great, breakfast huge.

Room Tip: Lake view or ask for fell view but opposite side to spa
