A group of 27 ladies stayed in Stanley House for two nights & it was absolutely amazing!! Yes, the house is a bit dated & needs a bit of DIY but you would expect it to be modern & it’s nothing major! We had everything we could have wanted & more! The staff really looked after us, any time we needed them they were here, batteries, screw drivers, Jäger ... nothing was a bother for them!
Plenty of space, everything you need in the kitchen, toilets & showers all clean & plenty of hot water! The army truck was a fantastic extra to & from the woolpack which was a great night with a great band! Would definitely recommend for people to stay here & would happily return for another stay in the future! I would say avoid the Hardknott pass if possible, definitely not for a nervous driver! All in all a brilliant weekend, thank you :)

There were 21 ladies in our party and we had a wonderful weekend at Stanley house. The house has two very comfy sitting rooms downstairs and a lovely big bright kitchen and dining room with views across the beautiful garden which is massive and great for games or just chilling. We were allowed a bouncy castle, bucking bronco and hot tub and there was loads of space for these! We were self catering and the kitchen is extremely well stocked and we wanted for nothing!
Most rooms were twin with en suite apart from two family rooms. The beds and towels were extremely clean and beds very comfy! Rooms have hairdryer! Parts of the house are a little tired but I think adds to charm. We spent an evening at the Woolpack inn and we were driven in the army truck owned by the house back and too ( quite an adventure) a great touch! It is easy to find the house as it is on a quiet main road. There is plenty of parking at the front of the house and it is right opposite the Ravenglass and Eskdale railway. Well worth a stay at this lovely old house. Highly recommended

Five of us recently stayed one night. Staff are based at the nearby pub which is run by the same owner. The building has architectural merit and old-world charm, located beside a river and across the road from a narrow-gauge railway. Breakfast was healthy and filling. Staff have a bad habit of propping doors open with fire extinguishers, which I then rehung on the wall brackets! Propping doors open with fire extinguishers is an absolute no-no in any building available for public access.

Stanley House is in a fantastic location in Eskdale. The B&B is very run down and not particularly clean. Our bathroom was like a swamp because the window would not open. On the plus side the sheets and towels were spotless and there was plenty of hot water. We had the help yourself breakfast - toast and cereal which was good value. Unfortunately on our last day no-one came to set up breakfast (i.e. bread, butter, jam and coffee/tea etc). We had to call and someone was sent - this delayed our departure. The wi-fii was good.

We had a brilliant weekend at Stanley House. There were 23 of us all together, and there was more than enough room for everyone. It was great to find a house where all the rooms were in one building, where the rooms had ensuite bathrooms, and where all the bed linen/towels etc was provided.

The house is absolutely beautiful and the garden area behind the house is stunning, and massive! It's also a few steps from a mountain side, which I walked up with some friends. The weather was beautiful and it was a wonderful & peaceful experience. Some other friends took a ride on the steam train which is also just a few steps away.

The facilities in the house are first rate. There was everything we could possibly need in the kitchen to cook for our large group. Two big ovens, two fridges, all the untensils, and lots of room to sit, dance, drink, and socialise. There were also two separate living room areas where people could relax. There's also free wifi which works throughout the entire house.

The staff were lovely from day one. They helped me with all the organising and booking, as well as booking a table for my partner's birthday in the nearby Woolpack Inn. The army truck ride to the pub was a lot of fun and made getting there & back easy. Also, I'd mentioned to one of the Stanley House staff that I was vegan, and I was very impressed to find that the chef at the Woolpack Inn had made me a special vegan meal with vegan cheese. Everyone I dealt with was incredibly helpful and friendly.

I'd read a few comments about the drive up there being a bit scary but as long as you take your time it's absolutely fine, and the view is stunning. It was one of the most beautiful drives we've ever done, the whole area is breathtaking. I believe we took the "less scary" route by not taking the Hardknott Pass route.

All in all, it was an absolutely perfect weekend that we'll never forget, and we can't wait to come back!
