We called into Tideswell on the off-chance of finding somewhere pleasant for lunch following a disappointing visit to the Blue John Cavern. Needing something to lift our spirits, we chanced upon the Vanilla Kitchen. Having entered, we were warmly welcomed by the staff who accommodated our every need. There was no specific menu just boards of specials and nothing obviously on offer for our two sons. However, the waitress who served us offered sandwiches which were specially made up for our boys. Nothing was too much trouble! I ordered the potato, white onion and garlic soup and my husband ordered the giant scone with jam and clotted cream. We felt the food was slightly on the dear side however when it arrived it was clearly excellent value for money: the portions were enormous and everything was very well presented and obviously home-made. The boys' sandwiches were accompanied with fruit and the bread was beautifully presented and obviously home-made. Both boys struggled to eat everything in front of them as there was so much. My husband enjoyed his scone and clotted cream which was beautifully presented. My soup was the nicest soup I've had in a very long time: none of the flavours was overpowering; it tasted perfect! I didn't want it to end! The artisan bread was stunning - very tasty! We were cajoled into having pudding for the boys but I'm glad we bothered: the brownie and the cheesecake were divine! We were made to feel very welcome by the owner who couldn't have done more for us. We all can't wait to go back and try more of the delicious food.

A real pity because this place would do really well with just a simple change in attitude of the staff/owner. Immediately on entering and approaching the ordering desk there was no welcoming smile, just a cold atmosphere that made you feel like a hindrance.

To be fair, the food we ordered was very nice and well presented but this would not be a good enough reason to return as I felt uncomfortable throughout my meal due to the feeling of tension in the air.

I don't know if this was just a bad day for the staff/owner.......this was the first time I had been, but I sincerely hope that they take note of reviews such as this one because customers want to feel welcome and just exchanging a few pleasantries would have made the difference between a poor and a very good review.

My wife and I are lucky to live in the Peak District and regularly enjoy coffee and cakes in local cafes.
We decided to try this cafe for the first time and ordered coffee with fruit scones and butter only. We were flabbergasted to find the cost of a simple fruit scone with butter to be a staggering £3.95. We have never seen such an expensive scone in all our travels. Needless to say with such outrageous prices we did not stay.
As we left we were approached by the owner/manger who was belligerent and extremely off hand.

Popped in on the off chance on a sunday. Brilliant place, lovely cheese scones. Wish we had a dog to bring with us. If you have a dog and wanting dog friendly this is the place. Will come back for sure.

While out and about on a dull rainy day, we looked this place up on our dog friendly app, and was not disappointed. Very friendly owner and staff, cakes like you have not seen before and even the coffee was yum. Very welcoming and made us feel at home. The funny thing was that the leaflets about the place had a picture of a dog on the front. A White Miniature Schnauzer, whats the odds as that is what out Mabel is. Whats the odds.
