We called into Tideswell on the off-chance of finding somewhere pleasant for lunch following a disappointing visit to the Blue John Cavern. Needing something to lift our spirits, we chanced upon the Vanilla Kitchen. Having entered, we were warmly welcomed by the staff who accommodated our every need. There was no specific menu just boards of specials and nothing obviously on offer for our two sons. However, the waitress who served us offered sandwiches which were specially made up for our boys. Nothing was too much trouble! I ordered the potato, white onion and garlic soup and my husband ordered the giant scone with jam and clotted cream. We felt the food was slightly on the dear side however when it arrived it was clearly excellent value for money: the portions were enormous and everything was very well presented and obviously home-made. The boys' sandwiches were accompanied with fruit and the bread was beautifully presented and obviously home-made. Both boys struggled to eat everything in front of them as there was so much. My husband enjoyed his scone and clotted cream which was beautifully presented. My soup was the nicest soup I've had in a very long time: none of the flavours was overpowering; it tasted perfect! I didn't want it to end! The artisan bread was stunning - very tasty! We were cajoled into having pudding for the boys but I'm glad we bothered: the brownie and the cheesecake were divine! We were made to feel very welcome by the owner who couldn't have done more for us. We all can't wait to go back and try more of the delicious food.
