We chose the J. Palen House for our stay when we came to Cleveland for Oberlin 2021 graduation. When we opened the door to our place--we stayed in "The Retreat" - we were blown away. We felt like we had our own little home in the middle of Ohio City. It was comfortable, super clean, had so much space--a big eat-in kitchen, a comfy living room, and then wooden stairs up to a loft bedroom with a jacuzzi tub for two and a large shower. The bedroom had two big comfy chairs and a fan/windows to make it even more comfortable. To boot, the room was cleaned every day and beautifully presented--and there was a delicious breakfast waiting for us in our fridge for the next morning: french toast one day, omelettes the next, and plenty of snacks and a fresh bread waiting (one day it was dark chocolate loaf, one day it was another delicious variety). The B&B is 10 minutes max walk to the center of Ohio City--eg. Town Hall restaurant, Flying Fig, and other places. We can't recommend it enough. Diane and her partner were wonderful hosts!

My friend and I stayed in "The Barn" property of the J. Palen House B&B while on a short trip to Cleveland. There was touchless check-in and the innkeeper graciously left us a delicious breakfast to heat and enjoy. There was a lovely, well equipped kitchen and a sitting room, which was beautifully decorated for the holidays. Our bedrooms were upstairs. They both had a king size bed, spacious bathroom with a jacuzzi and a sitting area. My room "The Retreat" even had a fireplace. Everything was sparkling clean. You could tell that attention was paid to every detail.
"The Barn" was beautiful and festive both inside and out. I was so impressed and would definitely recommend this property in charming Ohio City.

Made a visit to Cleveland on Wednesday to deliver gifts to family. Due to the pandemic, my friend and I stayed at a J Palen property referred to as “The Barn”- a one-time stable now luxuriously converted into two-story units for either short or long term visits. As with all J Palen properties, Diane has decorated this with beautiful, primitive, authentic, decor. To boot, each rental property has been beautifully adorned with fresh greens and decorations for the holiday season. As per the pandemic recommendations, we were welcomed with a touchless entry, and our breakfast (a delicious homemade frittata, yogurt parfait, juice) was waiting for us in the fridge with exact directions for morning preparation since we couldn’t gather around a community breakfast table.
Thank you, Diane, for everything and more. The words “repeat customer” ( that’s me) say more than any review could do the J Palen House justice.
Merry Christmas!

After we arrived and settled into the beautiful, two floor Roost, we had a leisurely brunch at a very good dinner called Heck’s, then later that evening took the short 10 minute drive downtown for dinner. The best part of our stay was sitting in the lovely, tranquil back garden with a glass of wine listening to soft jazz. Soooo nice. The check in and out was quick, easy, and contactless, Thanks to the proprietor, Dianne Miller.

Room tip: We had the Roost & it was great.
