Description: This iconic German Village restaurant is the perfect place to celebrate with family and friends. For five generations we have been serving authentic German food. Our sausage has become so famous that the Bahama Mama has been voted the official food of Columbus and the building is registered as a historic landmark. Come take a trip around our Autobahn Buffet or, if you want something other than sausage, try one of our traditional German dinners. Of course, for dessert, you can have one of our half-pound jumbo cream puffs. Stop in today and celebrate with us!

It's been around a long time, I know, and clearly a place that knows their clientele. However, this is not really traditional German fare, having been there and in Austria several times. It is a volume operation, with herds of people in and out for the buffet. That said, the space is nice, albeit very crowded and German Village is lovely. I generally prefer a stop at Katzinger's, though it's not cheap. Mohawk Tavern is good too.

Back in September, my boyfriend and I spent a nice weekend in Columbus... we decided on Schmidts, because we had heard good things about it from a relative of mine who lives near there.

The atmosphere was alot of fun! I ordered the buffet...you can try just about any dish they have. Wonderful food!! Authentic German food.
We ended our dinner with the jumbo cream puffs! Yum! But too much for one person after a big dinner like that.
They have a little gift area as well. I brought home a nice coffee mug!
Lots of fun..I recommend this place. The wait for our table wasnt too bad either.
Great food!

Probably OK for the tourists who have never been to Germany to experience what real German food is like. The few authentic German dishes that are offered have all been altered to the American taste buds. It's unfortunate, and not on a real German menu. The sausages are supposed to be the best thing they offer. There is one good German beer, and one good German coffee. The rest of the menu is more American than anything else. I was sadly disappointed.

I live in Columbus, and Schmidt's is one of the few restaurants that I'm happy with every time I go. I never have bad food or a bad waitress. If you have never been to Schmidts before, you have to try the Bahama Mama.
