“Had a fab time”
4 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 29 February 2012

My boyfriend and I, along with our 8 week old baby daughter and dog have just returned from a two night stay. We loved it. The staff were very friendly, happy to help us up the stairs with our buggy (the lift is apparently the oldest in service in Europe and too tiny for a small buggy). They fed us well with super breakfasts and were happy for us all, including our dog, to lay on the sofas in the lounge in front of the fire. We stayed in room 106 which was huge with a big tub and (small) double, but comfy bed. Really fun for a night or two. Location is great, right in the High Street and lots of free parking. It's a very quaint and a bit creaky in places due to the age of the lovely old building. Room 106 has huge front windows looking straight at the church. Be warned though if you are a light sleeper, traffic (plenty of lorries) start rattling through the town at about 6am. Luckily, with an 8 week old baby, we were up anyway! Maybe don't stay in this room in summer; open windows wouldn't have been ideal. Wishing you a great stay.

We stayed in room 204 for the last 4 days. As always the staff were friendly and interested in the guests ; special mention this time for "Sarah" the morning breakfast waitress who we found to have great rapport with all of us.

The fire alarm did sound at about 11pm last night. Yes it was a shock and there was no escaping the sound, but before we all start complaining - we all knew what it was and therefore, it does reassure me that the hotel is safe!

As usual it was a great stay at the hotel. Good value, good food, friendly staff, great location.

See you again

The hotel is very central, right on Lyndhurst High Street and opposite the church where the real Alice of Alice in Wonderland is buried, with a big car park round the back. The actual hotel is lovely, very characterful and lots of lovely old furniture. It's a bit creaky but you would expect that from such an old building, and generally was very quiet. Our room was average, it looked out on to the high street (although we didn't find noise a problem) but was just a bit outdated, especially the bathroom. We also had two twin beds pushed together rather than a double which isn't great for couples! It was very clean though, and the staff were lovely and very helpful.

I took my partner, toddler and dog away for a couple of days here. The price was REALLY reasonable, the room was huge and we kept the dog in with us, which meant no dropping off and picking up from kennel arrangements. The breakfast was fine, could have done with a veggie option, but there was plenty of everything else. We were at the front of the building which was noticeable for the noise, but not any worse than living on a main road which we do anyway. Big bathroom, helpful staff and in a perfect position for the town and wondering in the forest.

Me and my partner, spent 3 nights here just to relax and catch up on sleep. Since having twins, we have been very deprived of sleep. The room that we were given was on the second floor at the front of the hotel and considering that the hotel is situated on a busy road, the traffic wasn't a problem. The beds were sooooooooooooooo comfortable and big, slept so well and even manages a few afternoon naps. Didn't hear any other resident, felt like we were there alone. The tea and coffee was topped up daily with some lovely biscuits. The reception staff and manager were lovely. The breakfast was pretty good too. The only thing that i could fault with this hotel is that the decor could do with up grading but if you look at the building, it fit perfectly.

Thank you very much for taking the time to write this lovely review. I will be sure to pass your kind comments onto the staff. I can imagine twins can be a bit of a handful so we are more than happy to have offered you a break! Although as they get older it would be lovely to have them join you for another stay with us in The New Forest. We look forward to meeting them!

Many thanks once again

Kind regards
