Reassuring to know that - after not visiting since the GJA changed hands - the same miserable welcome is still on offer. The rating of two is offered, rather than zero, because Tring Ales have a presence and the location of this pub is spectacular.

Amazing Sunday / Easter lunch with extremely generous portions especially the sticky ale pudding. Very relaxed vibe with friendly helpful staff. Highly recommend!

The Junction Arms is perfectly situated along the towpath for us to stop for lunch.
The service was excellent and delivered in good time.
The prices are somewhat steep, but the food tasted good.

Terribly disappointed with the odd service we have received here not once, but twice in less than a week. My husband and I first visited the Grand Junction on a Saturday after a w
We paid a visit to The Grand Junction recently after a walk along the canal. It was a Saturday and the pub was busy but by no means packed. We asked if they had a table for two only to be told we should have booked and as we hadn't, they couldn't accommodate us. Okay, that's fair enough. So we decided to come back, on a Thursday, at lunchtime. The place was EMPTY, save for one table of four - yet again we were asked if we had booked. Well no, (but surely this is not an issue because it's Thursday and this is a bar which serves food and - as mentioned - the place is EMPTY). But apparently it was an issue because they had a table of 15 coming in (who had booked) and they simply couldn't accommodate us too (we just wanted a sandwich, what with it being lunch time) and a table of 15.
Now come on kids, get your act together. Don't advertise food and ale outside of your establishment if you are seemingly unable to cater for one half of that equation. But possibly the most irritating thing about our two encounters is the gentleman we met behind the bar (on both occasions) who somehow managed to make us feel as if we were being scolded for daring to turn up to an empty pub asking for food without booking. I'd maybe accept his 'tude if this was a Michelin-starred fine-dining restaurant and we turned up in shorts and flip-flops - but it isn't and we didn't. Again, just to reiterate the salient points; turned away twice, most recently Thursday lunchtime, EMPTY pub but couldn't possibly serve us a sambo AND the enormous table of 15 coming in later. Needless to say, we left and went to The Akeman in Tring where we had a lovely lunch. I'd highly recommend going there.
P.S. It wasn't just that they didn't like the look of us and our baby - they turned another family away too, so I don't take it too personally.
P.P.S If you are wondering who we are, we are the couple who pointed out: "The place is EMPTY mate" as we left. No-one would have heard that though...what with it being empty.

We had the most enjoyable lunch today, I had Toad in the Hole, my husband had Prawn and Crab linguine and my sister-in-law had Ham, Egg and Chips. The food was exceptional and a really good standard. The atmosphere was very pleasant and the manager was very friendly. Definitely will return.
