Description: Our coffee house and farmshop is owned by Chris & Sheenagh Levett and is a family run business serving local and homemade food, breakfast, light lunches, salads, homemade cakes and pastries. Enjoy great coffee, teas and drinks in lovely surroundings overlooking our apple orchards and the beautiful countryside of Kent. The farm shop stocks local produce, and fresh bread form our instore bakery, home produced meat in our butchery and a great range of local cheeses and pies in our Deli. We are open 7 days a week.

lovely setting and with a delightful store attached. it is a little overpriced but still not bad for the area. It is a hang out for mums who do lunch and for cycle groups(bikes not motor bikes).
The food is good and the atmosphere very friendly. Try the store after you have had coffee and pick up some local produce I recommend the Benenden sauce.

Hi Alex & Maggie, thank you for your kind review of our Coffee House and Farm Shop. I am glad you enjoyed your visit to us. We are very lucky to have such a great setting - I know it's a bit bleak at the moment with bare trees and soggy ground but it's only 3 months to the start of another growing season, and the buds on the apple trees will be bursting into leaf and the blossom will be out before we know it! I understand your observation that we appear to be a little overpriced in the farm shop. Many of our 200 suppliers are small local family businesses in Kent and East Sussex, who we are passionate about supporting. Many are husband and wife teams who are fed up with 'industrial' style food and want to produce products using just natural ingredients and without artificial preservatives. Some have started producing food because of a family member's intolerance; to support the household income, or because they have a unique product. A great example of this is 'Lemon Ketchup' which we introduced recently. It's great on fish and chips instead of Tomato sauce! Small family businesses cannot, and will never, be able to compete with industrial style food manufacturers on price - but when it comes to provenance, quality, healthiness and sustainability of the local community - our small/family suppliers leave the big firms standing! Quality always has a cost attached (if only a Maserati was the same price as a Porsche!) and small businesses production costs are a bit higher, so their food is a bit more expensive to buy. Thank you once again for your kind review and we look forward to your next visit to us soon. With best wishes for the New Year, Sheenagh & Chris Levett

I visited about 3 days ago with my mum, dad, sister, grandpa and grandma for my mother's birthday. We each had a hartley breakfast with my sister and mother having a smoked salmon and toast. The toast that came for my sister was in fact burnt literally charcoal black whereas everyone elses was toasted fine. The sausage in my full english breakfast was slightly tough aswell was the bacon, the egg, beans, muchrooms and tomato were great though. For just over £6 something I was disappointed about not having another sausage or more beans etc and the quality of all of it. Half the breakfasts came 5 mins before the others so the timing wasn't the best but wasn't terrible. Other than those things I would maybe visit again and it was a pleasant experience.

Thank James C

Hi James, thank you for your review and observations on our Coffee House. I am sorry that the bacon and sausage was tough and that not all the breakfasts came out together. Re the toast - I will speak with our Coffee House manager, Mrs Kerri Richardson to find out why this was served to you. Notwithstanding that I am pleased that you enjoyed your visit to us overall and hope you will visit us again soon. Kind regards Sheenagh Levett

Hi Maurice, thank you for your kind review of our Farm Shop. I am pleased that you found our Deli well stocked with interetsing food. We stock over 60 different cheeses, and our own home smoked and cured hams. The local pies and quiches are very popular, as are our own homemade Pizzas. As for the doughnuts.....I agree, they are very popular. Head Baker, Keith, says that we bake over 450 a week now, and that's on top of all the 'regular' bread and the very popular white and multigrain sourdoughs he and his team of Alex and Gary, bake from scratch every day. Next time you are in, try the beetroot bread - you won't find it anywhere else! It's absolutely delicious.... and yes... I am biased! Thank you once again, with best wishes for the New Year, Sheenagh & Chris Levett

How can you complain about a farm shop that gave you wine and cheese on Xmas Eve - what a lovely place.

The shop has everything you want and the cafe is very good, but be warned that you do pay for this level of service. Personally I thought it was worth it.

Thank rugbyh

Hi, Thank you for your kind review of our Farm Shop and Coffee House and I am delighted you enjoyed the wine and cheese on Xmas eve. We had a great atmosphere in the shop and coffee house - did you see Alex in the Bakery dressed up as 'The Grinch'. He certainly stole the show - even if he didn't mange to steal Christmas! Head Baker, Keith and his team were in all night baking our fresh bread, which do from from scratch every day, and also getting all the customer orders ready for collection. Many of our suppliers are small family businesses in Kent and Sussex who we are passionate about supporting. Many are husband and wife teams who want to produce really tasty products from natural ingredients - not an E number in sight! A great example of this is Colin & Susie Corfiled's 'Owlet Apple Juices' - they are all made on the farm from apples from Colin & Sizie's own fruit farm in Lamberhurst and the only addition to the freshly pressed juice is Vitamin C. Small family businesses cannot (and will never) compete with industrial style food manufacturers on price - but when it comes to provenance, quality and sustainability - well .....our suppliers leave the big firms standing! As a result small businesses costs are a bit higher so their food is a bit more expensive to buy. But I am so pleased that you also felt that the little extra cost was well worth it. Thank you once again and we look forward to your next visit soon. With best wishes for the New Year, Sheenagh & Chris Levett

Really nice coffee and big slices of cake. Plus really nice to sit overlooking the apple trees despite it being winter. Service was very efficient, but I didn't feel the warmth and friendliness of the server .., I would have preferred a smile and upbeat approach.

Also love the fact dogs are allowed in.

Farm shop was amazing, such a wide range of goodies and essentials too.

Thank Taniabellamia

Hi Taniabellamia, thank you for kind review of our Coffee House and Farm Shop. I'm delighted you enjoyed the coffee and our slice of cake overlooking our apple orchards. I apologise for the lack of friendliness and a smile in the table service. I will pass your observations onto our Coffee House manager, Kerri for her attention. Your observation is important to us, as our customer service is something we value very highly. We are vey happy to have well behaved dogs in the coffee house, (only guide dogs are allowed in the farm shop) and I am very pleased you enjoyed browsing the farm shop. We try to support local producers, British made and award winning food and drinks. Nearly every Saturday and Sunday we have local producers in to do tastings and demonstrate their food or drinks. Running up to Xmas we will be having in local vineyards for wine tastings. I hope you may be able to come along and taste some excellent local English wine. Thank you once again for your kind review and observations and I look forward to your next visit to us. Kind regards Sheenagh & Chris Levett
