Description: Our cafe, deli and specialist cheese shop is located in the old Lee Carter Gym building between Castle Street and Lowergate. Best found by either parking in the Lowergate car park and coming up the steps in the left hand corner, or from Castle Street- nip down the narrow alley opposite Costa Coffee. The building is very long and thin so you can't see everything we do without exploring. There are also changes of level in the approach to and inside the premises and we will help anyone with mobility issues wherever possible. We have a loo downstairs, just ask, as well as the main one upstairs, but access still involves a couple of steps.

This was my second visit here.
It really is a hidden gem!
I had a really tasty veggie pate and toast with salad .
This is the type of place I'm always on the look out for but very rarely find.
This lady really knows how to combine flavours to make some fantastic food !

Thank Yvonne P

This is lovely delicatessen. The only way that we found out it was there was because we heard someone talking about it on the Main Street otherwise we wouldn't have known it was there. Excellent choice of cheese and if you are unsure about the taste of a cheese they offer you a sample. Well priced and the cheese is displayed well.

My dad & I visited yesterday, he has been before & was very impressed, so we decided to go out for a cheese platter lunch (which is just my idea of heaven!) With a bit of searching, as its tucked down a little street, we managed to get a seat (lucky as it seems to be a very popular little spot!) We ordered the sharing cheese platter & it was delicious! Had a really nice salad with it, chutney & a bowl of bread & crackers. The ladies that were working there were all incredibly friendly and efficient & explained each cheese to us. We then also ordered cake & coffee after seeing some go past that looked amazing! All in all a very lovely little place! (Just a tiny little suggestion that would make the experience even better, would be to have some napkins with the cheese platter, as it gets slightly messy & It would be good to wipe the knife before getting stuck into the next cheese, especially when sharing. Of course I could have asked for one but I was too busy enjoying the delicious food. :) )

We were in a hurry to get back to our car so sadly didn't have time to eat here; instead we bought a chunk of crumbly Lancashire cheese so scrummy that we're not sure if we can ever face supermarket stuff again! The range of cheeses (especially local ones) is superb and the young woman who served us was delightful. It's only too easy to walk past the little ginnel that leads to the shop so keep your eyes peeled as you go up Castle Street: it's opposite the splendid Cowman's Famous Sausage Shop. You won't be disappointed.
