I am a firm believer on you get what you pay for - and this fits the case with the Hogs Head Inn. We stayed here for 2 nights over our wedding. It was a good deal with breakfast and dinner thrown in. The positives - the room was large, clean and had all the facilities we needed for our stay. Dinner was good, as was the breakfast (albeit not much cooked choice for vegetarians). Late checkout wasn't a problem. Negatives - One room key for a room of 4. This was a problem as one of our guests was in the room ( which needed the key for the electricity), so the rest of us had to get others to allow us entry into the accomodation area. There was no remote control. Once mentioned to reception a new one arrived an hour later. The main one for us however was the customer service. We stayed here the night before and the night of our wedding. Although things were sorted, eventually once brought to the hotels attention, there never seemed to be an urgency. My wife was alone at breakfast on wedding morning carrying a 6 month old and with 3 year old, carrying breakfasts and hot drinks to her table baby in arms. Not once did any of the staff around offer to help. The morning of the wedding, it was raining heavily my wife came down in her wedding dress ready to leave and it took her hair and makeup friends to request the staff opened a door closer to the car - which was eventually done. As I said before I believe in you get what you pay for, while the basics were done ok, simple straightforward things could have made it so much more better, and easier for my wife. Hence the average rating.

My husband and I visited this pub on a Saturday afternoon. The decor is warm and welcoming. Everything was very clean and the staff friendly. There was a great selection on the menu but it was just a little expensive. You could argue though that the quality of the food was excellent so this justified the cost. We both ordered something from the sandwich menu and were pleased with our choices and particularly the home-made chunky ships.

Purpose built hotel just off the A1, on the edge of town overlooking fields and a business park. Well managed with good staff. Spacious room and bathroom, nicely decorated and well equipped (tea making, safe and iron) with quality towels.
Dining is casual, pub style with reasonable choice and large portions (the menu would perhaps benefit from some lighter options and salads).
Good for a stop over when heading north/south and a perfect base for touring this lovely area.
Only criticism is that the mattress seemed to be reaching the end of its useful life, which will no doubt have been remedied by our next visit!

Stayed here 20 golfers in march. No problem with rooms, food was ok.Was shocked to find a pint of the nigerian larger ( guinness ) was £4.55p wow that was expensive the dearest price i have ever paid ! The hotel is out of Alnwick next to the A1 staff were young but not well trained in front of house welcomes.Would not put anyone off stopping here i think we will be back next year.

Room Tip: One without a spring mattress.

The room was great, had everything that we needed and was very comfortable. The food was really great. The staff were very helpful and nothing was too much trouble. I would definitely recommend. It is easy to find and close to the town.
