My mum and I visited the restaurant today for afternoon tea. The reception area was very busy, and it took a little while to find someone to seat us. The service was otherwise fine - the staff checked in with us every now and again and were always happy to help.
The coffee was lovely, but the food was mediocre. The sandwiches were fine (ready-grated cheese with Branston pickle, chunky ham with mustard, and salmon), and the cakes were okay but nothing particularly special (Victoria Sponge, profiterole, Bara Brith, mini raspberry meringue). We were a bit disappointed by the scones - they were quite thin, the bottoms were caked in flour, and they came sandwiched together with jam and whipped cream rather than being served with a separate pot of clotted cream.
This isn't to say the afternoon tea was bad - we enjoyed the experience overall. It just didn't feel as special and wasn't as tasty as other ones we've had. We'd probably try elsewhere in the Oswestry area before coming back again.More
