Called in for Sunday roast when we were passing today. Great food, plenty of meat, a big Yorkshire pud and nice veg, couldn’t ask for more. They are also dog friendly which was fantastic.

Staying in Porlock we looked for a place to eat. The Royal Oak is a proper pub with owners that welcome everyone.
Good pub grub well cooked and served with a smile. Worth a visit.
Plus dogs welcome!

On a holiday in Porlock, Somerset, we dropped in to the Royal Oak pub for a meal. The owner and his wife were most friendly and helpful giving the pub a very pleasant atmosphere. The two meals we had were very, very good. Both were well presented, were full plates and were delicious. The price of the main course was very reasonable (less than £10) considering the high standard. Could not fault them. We highly recommend this pub.

We went into this pub for a lunch while we waited for our cottage to become available. We received a warm welcome and enjoyed our food. The beer was good as well. It turned out that our cottage did not have wifi so we returned to the pub very nearly every day to use their free wifi.
This is a good old fashioned pub with locals as well as the likes of us. All are made welcome. On one day when we had walked from our cottage in Bossington to to Porlock and when we sat down for our customary pint the barman who might have been the manager brought us a plate of chips. 'We are trying out a new chip' he said. They were excellent. They even made us welcome when we went in with my five month old grand daughter.
Their lunchtime menu is a perfect example of good pub grub with everything you could expect ranging from ham egg and chips through pie to fish and chips with loads of things in between. Huge menus indicate lots of is cooked from frozen so not much needed in preparation time. The good thing here is that it was not a massive menu but what was there seemed fresh and good.
I loved the atmosphere, the welcome, the food and the beer.
