“Hidden paradise on Earth!”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 5 November 2011

I have stayed at Lagunita twise now and couldn't wait to come back since last year. Nestled in a lushious tropical setting, beautifully decorated in a simple earthy style, right on the beach, quiet and cozy. Amazing service, delicious food, very helpful hosts and a gracious owner Luke. Perfect for retreats like Tango and Yoga. We will be back!

What a place and experience for a wedding. I'd have to say it was the most beautiful wedding I've ever been to being married on the beach as the sun was setting . The wedding accomedations were all taken care of by Luke what ever anyone needed was taken care of and from a parent standpoint and the wedding was totaly stress free with everything being taken care of. We went in April during Easter weekend PV was packed with people and we had this place and the beach pretty much all to ourselves. The food and drink was all included and it wasnt just a buffet deal like most places you ordered whatever you wanted off a menu and everything i had was great. I'd also like to say my brother went and is partially disabled and Luke took care of everything he needed even having food taken to his room. For the price you can't beat it anywhere and for the wedding cost can't beat anywhere either. I just want to thank all the staff working at the Hotel Laguntina for making this the most awesome wedding that our familys and my daughter could have ever asked for. If you wanna kick back and get away from all the hustle and bustle Yelapa and Hotel Laguntina is the place.

Can only be -conveniently- reached by 40 minutes of water taxi or other small boat from the Puerto Vallarta central pier. Hotel is a collection of individual bungalows (casitas) along a low rocky promontory overlooking Yelapa beach, and it has its own pier for drop-off and pickup. Wonderful, beautiful location *on* the beach of Yelapa, invites to mindless relaxation and dolce far niente in absolute quiet... We stayed in casita nr 15 and it was clean, airy (roof detached from walls!) and had all the things one expects from a subtropical accommodation. Even a mosquito net that we actually found out did not need (we were there end of May).

The owners are American and that translates into very friendly and competent service everywhere. Its restaurant (shaded tables on the beach, of course) serves succulent fresh fish and seafood, the catch of the day being exactly that... try the ceviche if it's available.

Short uphill hike (20 mins) possible to the village of Yelapa itself; it has a few entertainment spots and modest restaurants, cafes and one grocery store that shamelessly exploits its monopoly position --at least towards tourists.

The selfish part of me doesn't want to brag too much about Yelapa because I don't want it to become too popular, as this would rob it of its isolated beauty, but the good-hearted traveler part of me wants to let people know just how unique this place really is.

We've been to Puerto Vallarta twice now and Yelapa is 30-minute (~$20) water taxi away, but it is worth the trip. We only stayed at Hotel Lagunita for one night but it was enough to make us want to return. First, I want to address other peoples' complaints about lack of wi-fi and perhaps maybe a few insects here & there - the small village of Yelapa is where you go to get away from the hustle & bustle of life. If you're spending more time on the internet rather than the serene environment outdoors, you might not be the type to want to come here in the first place. And if you see a few bugs, you must realize that there are jungles all around that these little critters call home, so if a few wander into your open-air room, this is perfectly OK. Bring some bug spray and use the mosquito net if necesary.

In short, Hotel Lagunita (and maybe Yelapa in general) is not for high-maintenance people. But if you came here for relaxation, breathtaking views, and maybe a late-night beer on an isolated beach, I would highly recommend it. Lucas at the front desk was extremely nice and helpful. We plan on returning this December, and at least once a year after that. I fell in love with Yelapa my first visit. Everyone has their paradise. This one's mine!

This hotel while ideally situated and very easy to get to was a major let down.

The bathrooms and beds were not clean. Amongst other things, dead (and plenty of live ones) littered every surface.

We stayed in rooms 20-23.
