Review of Cherry Street Pub

Cherry Street Pub
Ranked #1 of 149 Restaurants in Lancaster
Certificate of Excellence
Price range: US$8 - US$20
Cuisines: American, Pub
Description: One step into the Cherry Street Pub and you will find a casual coziness that will quickly reminds you of a centuries old English pub. The 100 year old building has been classically updated with new furnishings and modern television screens, while preserving the building's original charm and character. You won't find any chain restaurant here. Every dish is homemade and freshly prepared down to our salad dressings, cole slaw and barbeque sauce. It's food with the freshest ingredients. Food you simply won't find anywhere else. And food that perfectly pairs with our wide selection of craft beers and other libations.

This place came highly recommended to us by several people. We arrived right at peak for dinner, but didn't have to wait as we chose to be seated in the patio. The patio area is quite small and has European style seating, but we were okay with this. The menu has so many things that I had a hard time deciding (this is one of the reasons I want to go back!). My husband and I both chose the Bison Burger, but he had his on a bun with fries on the side while I chose to enjoy mine without the bun, in a bowl like a salad (no fries). It was absolutely delicious! Because we shared some pub bread (yummy) as an appetizer, I was not able to eat my entire meal, but it sure was nice for lunch the next day. My husband had no problem putting away the entire burger. He thoroughly enjoyed it. We are looking forward to going back again soon.

Yes, they have all the normal items, burgers, tacos, etc., but they manage to give them a bit of a different twist with Cuban beans (black beans and rice), a Thai item (maybe more), Southern influence in the collards and cornbread and Polish flavor to the kielbasa. Their menu is online, so you can check for yourself what appeals to you, along with a bit of history about the place. It's really nice to see small (ish) towns managing to keep some of their restaurants going in a time when chain restaurants are wiping out most local eateries. The reasonably priced mixed drinks name the alcohol used and the other ingredients--always a good sign, and they have a range of Ohio brews on tap (we tried the draft sampler for $8), which is a great way to find out what's new that you might like. While my husband liked the mahi-mahi tacos, I must confess the pub bbq burger with bacon, pulled pork, beef, two cheeses, lettuce, etc. isn't to my liking--all the meats seemed good quality (formerly there was a butcher shop attached to this restaurant), but an overstacked burger with competing meats is confusing. However, I know this is a trendy option, so those of us who like a more subtle approach need to look elsewhere on the menu. We also got the day's special for takeout: "pickled" chicken with collards and cornbread. It's brined chicken, so quite soft, but the brine has a pickle taste. I liked the collards and very crumbly cornbread better. Quality of the ingredients seems very good, the menu has both standard and more exotic items, and the interior was very pleasant and clean. Service was exceptional.

Let me start by saying we loved the vibe and the service was excellent. We went there when visiting from out of town based on Trip Advisor's recommendation. We thought the menu was fantastic.

We first got the calamari and it was very disappointing. It was laying in a puddle of bottled Thai chili sauce. The calamari were very small and hard. It was like chewing on a wet rubber band.

We both ordered fish and chips. It was ok. Definitely not fresh.

We saved room for dessert because we were intrigued by the waffles and ice cream. Very disappointing as the waffles were burnt and the ice cream was mostly melted when we received it.

It's a shame the execution didn't live up to the menu.

Jay, the bartender, is pretty awesome; the food is pretty awesome; those place in general is pretty awesome! We had pecan crusted chicken & waffles and the Island Chop (chicken instead of pork chop) with pineapple topping. Great atmosphere and great food. You won't be disappointed.

After a couple hours of zip lining in the chilly rain... a perfect place to end up and re-fuel. This came on recommendation of one of our zip lining guides as well. Perfect Bloody Mary Bar, great burgers and fish tacos too! Good Stuff!
