This is a fun place that showcases the early pioneer history of Linn County. Great place for kids who will enjoy the box cars and caboose. Lots of Indian artifacts, fabulous genealogy research section, helpful staff. And it is FREE! Well worth the detour off the interstate. If you have time, take a stroll through town and visit the neat antique stores. Wonderful place!

Amazing local museum. Many artifacts unique to this location. They have a really good "town" display. I didnt inquire but it seems there's also some historical records available to consult. One very great feature is a boxcar that has been converted to a movie theater. Bonus: no admission fee, a suggested donation. Amazing.

The most amazing exhibit of arrowheads and chipped tools I've ever seen. The historical stores set up as if on a street were fascinating. The visit to the caboose was a real eye-opener. This is a wonderful museum, well worth a visit or a dozen. It would take a dozen to take it all in. I wish they had more benches to sit on because so many of the exhibits were so full of interesting things that I would have liked to just sit there and look at them. The Oregon trail exhibit was especially interesting because I'd just read A. B. Guthrie's book The Way West. How those folks did that trek I just can't imagine, but the exhibits here helped me see what they went thru. I'll be going back here again. Brownsville is an interesting little town with lots to offer.

Visited the little museum in downtown Brownsville Oregon. Part of it set up in train cars. If you have a couple of hours visit this little jewel of a museum, plenty of interesting history to look and read about in this quaint little town.

I have been here numerous times. They also have the "Stand By Me Celebration" in July in Brownsville. O yeah, LOL Brownsville is also the home to Chickenstock. It is a vintage car show, antique and animal show.
But back to the museum. It is run by volunteers and donations. The volunteers I have ran into there gave always been great and interesting to talk with. Thus isn't your normal museum. But there is a wealth of items to be seen and admired here. Great bits of Oregon history. I really have enjoyed trips here since it seems so much of Oregon's history is rapidly disappearing.
The town also has some interesting older buildings in the downtown area.
