We pulled up and I would say within a couple hundred yards we were under the waterfall. The amount of water pushed over was amazing and the mist from the pounding water covered everything. It was something truly to behold and experience. A photo will not capture that roar, that sweet aroma, or the colors dancing off that mist. A definite must see!

This was a great surprise since we assumed Multnomah Falls would be the most amazing falls of the day.

A small parking lot sits right on the road and there was plenty of extra spaces along road. A small incline leads to a vantage point looking at the gigantic falls.

A path from there heads upwards with a quick ascent to the top of the falls. You may see people at the top to the right of the falls - this is a 2.5 mile + hike to get to the other side of the falls but within 10 minutes you can be at the top level on the left side.

Back in the parking are a separate path leads down to the base of the falls where a loop trail let’s you get right underneath the water and feel the mist surround you. The place was beautiful.

For anyone worried about access, the Columbia River highway is open from the Corbett exit off the 84 highway all the way from that point to bridal veil.

These Falls are really nice and so is the hike. There are different hikes available. The most direct trail is not very far from the rest area. We visited many Falls that day, and Latourell Falls was our favorite.

The waters that falls down is a sight to behold. One can feel its water vapour when nearing it. One can take a short trek to the falls and take beautiful snaps of its breathtaking view.

Title: A beautiful 2.3 mile loop around Upper and lower Latourell Falls.

Latourell Falls is located in Guy Talbot State Park. This in on the old Columbia River Gorge Highway between Vista House and Bridal Veil Falls. You cross a bridge and pull off into the parking area right after you cross the bridge. There was restroom facility and a few picnic tables here and that was about it. Except for two trails. One trail leads down lead to the bottom of the lower Latourell falls and the plunge pool with fantastic view of this about a 249-foot waterfall. The other trail goes all the way up to a bridge at the splash pool of the 100-foot Upper Latourell Falls. The trails runs alongside Latourell Creek. This upper falls area is all part of the George W Joseph Natural Area. It starts when you get to the top of the Lower Latourell Falls area.

Once you get to the top area of Lower Latourell Falls you are in the George W. Joseph State Natural Area. The trails runs along Latourell Creek. It crosses a bridge at the splash pool of Upper Latourell Falls at around the 0.8 miles point.

Continuing on this loop trail will ring you back down along the west side of the creak and down to the Scenic Highway to the west end of the bridge. You can either cross the bridge and return to the parking lot. Or cross the road and walk down the stone steps and follow the path to the lower part of Talbot Park, where you will find a large grassy picnic area. It has a picnic shelter, various picnic tables scattered all about the area. There are a few houses across the road just north of the park. These houses are all part of the tiny town of Latourell.

From this secluded park below the scenic highway you can follow a footpath that will lead you under the highway bridge and straight to the bottom of Latourell falls and then back up to the parking lot where you started.
