This trail starts very easy walk, then cross a new suspension bridge, then begins a climb up the trail. Very muddy, but some of our group did it in tennis shoes. We took a 5 year old girl, she did fine most of the time, but had to be carried over the big muddy sections.

It is an old growth area so many nursing logs and host stumps. Quite the site. Takes over an hour if the trail is muddy.

The overlook at devils point is fenced and has a nice bench to sit and take in the sights.

We loved the walks through the woods to the beach. Fun to talk to surfers on the beach, as well as a professional photographer there from Nashville.

This is a lovely area along the northern Oregon coast. Be sure to stop at the Neahkahnie viewpoint just north of town.

So glad we stopped here on our day trip up the Oregon coast! This was not on our itinerary, but we asked a local for beautiful beaches worth seeing, and she mentioned Oswald West State Park and Short Sands beach. It was early November and drizzly at times, but still so beautiful.

We're from Georgia, so it was our first time to get up-close with an old-growth forest in the Northwest. Huge, moss-covered trees lined the short walk to the beach. Then you come out with a view to this secluded bay with crashing waves, and cliffs on either side. It did feel like you were on a movie set.

I read that the beach is crowded in the summer, and I believe it. It was mid afternoon when we arrived, and many surfers were finishing up or leaving.

We walked on some of the other trails through the woods, and found the suspension bridge over a creek.

The hike itself was not too strenuous. It's downhill to the beach, but not steep enough to make the hike back up difficult. There are some picnic tables and a public bathroom near the beach.

For us as travelers, this was a great stop to see a beautiful beach and to experience the woods of the Northwest we had only been seeing through the car windows.
