Great place to camp! The pathways are great for bike rides and very close to the beach. We ride out to the jetty. RV area is water and electric with a dump station on site. There's a store and the campground is very clean.

This place is huge, and has a lot of spots to camp. The sites are big and shaded. Located close to the coast, with hiking trails to the beach over the dunes. The staff were nice and took care of the place. Each site has a fire ring and picnic table. Water taps are easy to find and restrooms are clean despite how busy this place was.

Be aware this place has a lot of crows and squirrels. Take care with your trash and food as to not leave it out. I watched a few squirrels fight over a bag of marshmallows that someone left out, and a flock of crows tear apart someones bag of garbage they left out.

The camp ground is located near lots of restaurants, stores and attractions. The park is far enough away you don't get the sound of the city near by.

We spent 4 nights at the park in September 2017 in our C-Class motor home. The park is very large with a layout that gives most campers decent space. The restrooms and showers were very clean and large. The camp ground backs up onto the dunes, with some great hiking trails and bike paths. You can easily ride or walk to the South Jetty and watch the fishing ships going out to sea. A bit longer ride but on flat ground, will take you to the Oregon Coast Aquarium and Rogue Brewery. Large parking area at the beach makes the beach easily accessible. 2 thumbs up!

We stopped at the day area in South beach state park, as it brings back happy memories of all the times we have camped there in the past.
We stopped for a picnic lunch, and afterwards kicked off our shoes for a walk over the dunes on the beach. What a surprise, the beach was socked in with marine mist you could not see the ocean, it was Erie but amazing. We had friends with us who had not visited this beach before, so a great adventure for them.
Down to the ocean, the water was cold but you have to dabble your toes in there.
After our walk back out to the day area where it was sunny and warm, total difference.

Oregon beaches are so different than those on the East Coast. They are wild, free and unencumbered. No fancy boardwalks or amusement parks and shops and restaurants...just miles and miles of sand, dunes and blue waters! In the background you can often find evergreen forests and rocky formations . Depending on where you are, you may see sea lions or surfers. At least, the Newport sea lions make themselves heard loud and clear all the way to South Beach. It is a great place to get away from it all. Although I have only been there for long walks, there is also a campsite and you can rent a yurt. Nearby are the Hatfield Marine Science Center, the Oregon Aquarium and the Yaquina Bay lighthouse and recreation area. NOAA has their research ships docked nearby and, as mentioned earlier, the famous sea lion dock at Newport is also a very short drive away.
