Also a place you don’t want to miss. Situated in Washington park, not far from the rose garden is one of the most beautiful Japanese garden in the US. There are streams and waterfalls, peaceful corners and crafted walkways. They just added a very nice center and tea house, so you can rest amongst the beauty. Every season offers a delight.

We have a Japanese Garden in Chicago as part of the Botanic Gardens that the kids love. The Portland garden blew away the Chicago version. It was so well laid out and taken care of. There was a map for the kids to find things around the garden. There were so many great photo options. We didn’t take the time to check out the tea room, but it also looked nice. The biggest watch out is the parking. It was crazy by noon. We got there a few minutes before 10 and had no issues. Also nice that it’s by the Rose Garden.
A few species like cherry blossoms, hibiscus, and camellias have bloomed, but many trees have not, so I guess we were a week early. The entrance has moved to street level, so there is some uphill walking. However, I noticed there is a shuttle service to take those unable to walk from the parking area up the hill.
The Japanese Garden is very soothing and peaceful with beautiful landscapes, waterfalls and sculptures. Also had beautiful exhibit of intricate baskets.
This is a very peaceful garden. There are lots of steps and uphill walking for the size of the garden. Comparing it to the Japanese Garden in Hawaii, this garden is much smaller. But it is well maintained and the scale is appropriate. And it is quiet and allows an escape from the city rush.
