“Always a great walk down on the river!”
Review of Eastbank Esplanade

Eastbank Esplanade
Reviewed 14 September 2016

This walk is always so much fun to do as it is fairly flat and you walk along the Willamette River the entire time, just on the two different sides of the river and over the water via the Hawthorne Bridge and the Steel Bridge. Yes, you must dodge some bikers and baby carriages on nice days, but it is not too hard to do. If you walk the entire path, it takes less than an hour to go the approximately 2.2 mile loop. We always park for free on the street on the east side, walk across the Hawthorne Bridge, then do the west side first, often going by the Saturday Market area where we may stop and look, the cross the Steel Bridge to walk back on the east side. From both of the bridges, you can watch speed boats as well as sail boats pass below you. It's a nice feature of Portland that is free to do!

This is a wide and well groomed pathway that runs along the east side of the Willamette River in downtown Portland. In some places, it is on piers in the river and others, paved and running along the shore. Great views of downtown and the Willamette. Fast moving locals use this to commute and exercise so pay attention to where your lane is -- bikes in the center and pedestrians on the right.
A nice 4-5 mile loop is to start in the Pearl at Couch Street, cross the Steel Bridge, walk south along the Esplanade, back across at Tilikum Crossing and then along the water front back to the Pearl. Tired feet? Hop the streetcar at Tilikum Crossing.

The Eastbank Esplanade is a nice pathway in Portland. It is wide enough to accommodate bicyclists and pedestrians alike. It runs along the Willamette River and passes by OrEgon Museum of Science and Industry. There is a bike rental place right next to OMSI so tourists can ride to their heart's content.

Wonderful multi-use trail along the waterfront. Loved the view and going over the Steel bridge and seeing all the Saturday market crafts. So glad I brought my bike. I walked from the NE side at first and then did the loop to Sellwood on my bike.
