We started with the topotos con chile. They had an Arbol salsa with the goat cheese and guacamole and were phenomenal. The salad tacos were an excellent second plate. We finished with rockfish with guajillo sauce. Great great meal! Solid margarita as well.

Oaxacan dishes exhibiting delicious unique flavors …..In-house ground masa for tortillas are made. The restaurant also specializes in tequila and mescal drinks

Our meal was amazing. Service was great. The mezcal flight was icky but it helped us realize we prefer tequila! Started with the classic xico totopos- so good! Hubby had the carnitas dinner (small was plenty!) It was unusual in that the meat was served without a sauce on it. There was a small serving of a mole sauce on the side that was rich and delicious. I had the pollo encacahuatado rojo with roasted cauliflower. Also delicious! We had the sopopillas for dessert. Hubby is from New Mexico and thinks they should always be served with the main meal with honey. These had cinnamon sugar on them served with ice cream and a lovely berry sauce. He thought they ruined them by serving with cinnamon sugar ("That's just a small elephant ear now!") but we ate every bite! :)

We are frequent dinners at Xico. The atmosphere is cozy in the winter with low lighting and warm colors. In the summer the patio is open and makes for a great happy hour in the early evening or romantic dinner later in the evening. The menu is not large, and changes often. Generally there is at least 1 meat, 1 fish and a vegetarian dish and at times, a chicken dish as well. I have never had a bad dish. My husband's favorite is the carnitas dinner which seems to be on the menu all the time lately and I stick to vegetarian or fish. I love their pozole when they have it. The flavors are plenty and the ingredients interesting without being outlandish. The drinks, although a little on the spendy side, are quite good. The have the most extensive mezcal selection I have ever seen. If you are a fan of the smoky agave delight, try one of their flights.

Reservations on the weekend are a must but most of the time there is no wait during the week. There is a non-published kids menu, just need to ask the wait staff for the selection although I would not recommend this place to folks with small children. Street parking only - put your walking shoes on, finding a space can be trying.
