Staff at this restaurant are warm, inviting, and helpful. The atmosphere is good with a well stocked bar and some interesting wine and beer selections. They have a very good dark beer on tap if you like porters. Portland is not know for places that accept reservations, but this is one that does. We tried their fondue with apples, bread, and beer sausage to dip. The apples, bread, and sausage were very good. The fondue here was OK. But if you have ever had the real European fondue served in Germany or Switzerland you will be very disappointed with this fondue. It lacked the creaminess and rich cheese flavor with Kirsch that the real thing has. It also is served in a small metal bowl that keeps the fondue hot, but does not create the last of the fondue cheese crust which is created at the bottom of the classic fondue pot that is so often fought over in Switzerland. Beer sausage might be a better choice here. Right next door is a little German market where you can buy much of the items served at the Restaurant.

My grown children and I have been eating here for years, and this is a favorite place for us to bring friends and out-of-town guests. You need to be willing to wait, because the food is cooked fresh; but it is always worth it. If you are starving, order an appetizer (although I personally believe it is always best to do whatever necessary to save room for dessert). Because of the rather long wait for food, this is probably not the best choice for young children. Wait staff is friendly, knowledgeable and relaxed. Just make sure you have reservations as the restaurant area is small and it is always packed -- for good reason.

The food was great, not mass produced or run of the mill. But, the desserts won us over. everything we tried was mouth watering.

The food and service made our Christmas Day dinner very special. It's a very friendly place, obviously appreciated by locals who recommended menu items for us. Our server, Lisa, was excellent, attentive, knowledgeable about the menu and cooking processes - just a great help! We're not from here, but will definitely go out of our way to return.

Not a very busy night. We ordered the potato pancakes & meatballs. Waited 45 minutes. Food was bland at best. And the price did not reflect the quality or quantity we received. The Deli next door was excellent though.
