It was bought out by employees. We tried it a month or so ago because they would accommodate allergies. Locally sourced food simply prepared. Two problems.....service and supply. Wait staff took forever to do anything in the tiny restaurant. Water took 10 minutes, drinks 20 more, see a menu....wait until the next table is finished. Food...an hour more. Also they are out of half their menu at any given time.

We came back the following weekend. After witnessing the waitress spilling water all over some lady and not even apologizing and waiting 20 minutes we got our menus. Decided and then found out they were out of 2/3 of what we wanted. We walked out.

The Berlin Inn has closed. Another restaurant has opened in its same location using the same phone number (called Brooklyn House and featuring "European comfort food"). Many of the personnel in the new restaurant are the same friendly, efficient staff from the Berlin Inn who went together to finance and run the new offering. See my review of the Brooklyn House.

This was our favorite "special" restaurant that we had gone to for a few years....always taking guests with us because we loved it so much. But our most recent visit was a disappointment. We had reservations, but still had to wait for a table. The food took forever to get to our table and it was not hot. A lot of it was bland and did not taste like the quality German cuisine that we remember from previous visits. So sad. I do not think we will be returning.

If you want the best German food in Portland, this is the place! My wife and I have eaten here at least 30 times and have sampled about everything on the menu. It's impossible to make a bad choice. Many wines and beers are, of course, available. After you have enjoyed a wonderful meal, ask to see the dessert tray. Your sweet tooth will not be disappointed. Not to be missed.

Following a show at the Aladdin Theater, we walked over to the Berlin Inn. We were immediately seated by the window and our server was quick to bring us beverages. The fondue platter was amazing, including plenty of cheese, bread, apples, sausage and pretzel bites. That alone was a meal... then we had the main courses... Chicken schnitzel and Wurst & Cakes. The Wurst was a delicious combination of flavors and the potato cakes were delicious. The chicken schnitzel was a large serving complete with spaetzel and a side of red cabbage, all delicious. We were very full after all that, packed up half of our dinners to go, then came the dessert tray! Unable to resist, we ordered two desserts to go. What an amazing evening. Can't wait to return! Parking is limited, so you may need to walk a bit, but you will need to burn some calories after an amazing time!
