First time and first night in Portland and we stumbled upon this restaurant. We were not disappointed the service was good and the food was great. I can highly recommend the gnocchi Lamb shank and the Pork chops were out of this world

After a long day of Saturday travel from the East coast we were regretting our 7:15 dinner reservation and called at 4:30 to see if we could bump it to 5:30. No problem.
When we arrived we did have to wait in the entrance for a good 10 minutes ( appeared like they were still getting things together) but were seated in a comfortable dining room with a table next to a window. Our server immediately engaged us and kept up a friendly interaction throughout our two hour dining experience. She started by saying the restaurant was disappointed that they had to bring everything inside from the patio because of the wild fire smoke from gorge. Sitting inside wasn't an issue for us (the respite from the outside smokey air was nice). Our server's friendliness and hospitality made the evening positive and memorable.
My favorite part of the meal was my heritage melon salad, very fresh and crisp. My roasted rabbit entree was very good. My husband and I each tried the homemade ice-cream and peach pie.
We liked the portion sizes (not too large) and thought everything was delicious but decided the price tag rivaled some East coast meals we've had and were a bit overpriced compared to the quality of other fine dining entrees we've tasted: My rabbit entree was $36 and my husband's pork chop was $31, and although tasty, the "wow" wasn't there. Our two salads, two entrees, four glasses of wine, and two desserts came to $181, not outrageous for fine dining, but on the overpriced for what- it- was side.
When in town, particularly if in the northwest section of town, We'd return to Meriwether's for the refreshingly personable service and to try some of the other menu choices.

We chanced upon this restaurant on our way through Portland and enjoyed the best brunch ever on the beautiful patio. The service was friendly and efficient, and the food was outstanding and the portions just right.

We went to Meriwether's to celebrate a marriage, and were a party of 6. We made reservations, and detailed plans for our special night. What a mistake. From the very beginning we were rushed and pushed through our meal. The server kept breaking into our conversation and asking us what we wanted next. He took our plates away before we were even finished, and we had to literally hang on to them to finish our meal. The manager came over and asked us to leave as she had "to turn the table." We spend almost $500 for the dinner, and expected to take our time, and enjoy this special night. It was absolutely awful. The food was very average, they took no time at all to explain the menu, or the items their menu so proudly touted as local and farm grown. I would not recommend this restaurant to anyone as they simply don't care about your experience and only care about getting people in and then quickly out. They knew it was a special occasion and just couldn't see past making money. Entrees range from $30 to $40 and are generally way overpriced for what you get. Don't bother going to Meriwether's - as they are many far better choices in Portland that will honor the occasion and offer outstanding food and service! $500 and asked to leave so they could turn the table, that's unforgivable to us, we won't go back.
