“Great city hike. Leashless for dogs, you can walk/hike up to Council Crest Park”

There are nice short hikes here that are Easy-Medium. You can run, hike, or just walk slowly to the top of Council Crest Park.

If you want to head to the park, I recommend packing a picnic, water, or snacks, as there's not much to do at the park, and no water fountains that I could find.

The trails and CC park are leashless, so pretty amazing for dog owners.

The trails are through perfect Oregon woods and there are maps available at the parking area. There are several options and the hikes are doable by anyone able to walk for fun.

At various points, there are expensive homes along the walk, but they are so interesting they enhance the walk, they don't detract from the views.

Spent a lovely leisurely 2-1/2 hours hiking the Marquam Trail to the Council Crest Trail and back. My husband and I are 60 years young and this was a perfect match for our abilities. Delightfully cool in the shade and dappled light of the trees. Be sure to note the varied vegetation from giant maple leaf trees to tall cedar trees to frilly lady ferns. Watch out for banana slugs on the trail... don't want to hurt these gentle creatures! Next time we'll pack a picnic (and some quarters for the telescope) at the lookout at council crest! Great views from this 1073' elevation of Mount Hood, Mount Rainier and Mount St. Helens!

We ended up stopping here to get out of stand still traffic during rush hour. It was a highlight of our trip in Portland. The trails were muddy but not difficult to walk on. We were so close to congestion but once you are on the trails it is as if you entered a place of serenity.

We hiked trails within the park as part of the 4T (Trail, Tram, Trolley and Train) experience. The trail portion of 4T was approximately 4 miles in length and was an easy to moderate hike (some of it was uphill). There are several trail alternatives other than what we experienced as part of the 4T. It is hard to imagine such solitude within a city. There are a number of trails within the park, and the Marquam train takes you to Council Crest Park with spectacular views of the city and Mt. Hood, Mt. St. Helen and Mt. Adams on a clear day.

I've hiked here about 50 times, do it most every Saturday. Can bring your dog, but be able to control it! Different wildflowers at many times of year. Quiet. Can be some steep hikes. Wish the maps were more current, accurate, wish they'd add a new trail or two. Very easy to get to amidst urban environment. A great escape.
