If you are seeking great middle eastern cusine, try Karam. Take a bit to locate it and not very interesting from outside but step in for authentic food and flavors! Feta, Hummus, Falafel and stuffed grape leaves served with freshly made puffed pita bread!! Only tried vegetarian options. Enjoyed them all.

I found this by chance as I had a wonder around Portland. It was a Saturday night and it was reasonably busy. They have an extensive selection of Lebanese and Syrian food. I had Goat casserole with rice and an amazing fresh flatbread. It was all delicious and the portions were very generous. The welcome was friendly and genuine. The service was attentive. I would definitely return.

We went there for dinner on a bitterly cold night. It was the closest restaurant to the hotel we were staying in. We ordered a veggie Mezza, which was very good and a Samke Harra which was salmon cooked in an assortment of herbs and veggies ans served with basmati rice. It was a really delicious dish and we both enjoyed it thoroughly!

For dessert we had the Knafe B-Kaak and that too was enjoyable. Our server Samir was really very good and we enjoyed our experience there. We would definitely go there again!

During a two week coastal excursion from Oakland to Portland, Karam was the most authentic fare we discovered. A second-generation, in apparently a new location, who prepare wonderful old world cooking with a friendly presentation. The couple who own the place and their helpers are the ones who both prepare and serve their Lebanese-Syrian kitchen creations. The menu is very large and guaranteed to please. We chose Veggie Mezza: tabouleh mint salad, hummus dip, stuffed-grape leaves, baba ghanouj (puréed eggplant with lemon juice and olive oil) dip, and 2 falafels. Kibbee Beef Balls: bulgar wheat, lean ground beef with Lebanese seasoning, pinenuts, labneh rich yogurt. And one entree to share, Kafta Batata: a baked creation with grilled eggplant slices, boiled potato pieces, kafta ground beef patties, a rich and robust beef and tomato sauce, with a serving of basmati rice. Hot plate-sized homemade pita rounds. 1 Baklava desert. $45 for 2 including a draft beer. Amazingly tasty at a very reasonable price.

We went in this restaurant by chance and we had a very good experience. Good service and the dishes were well prepared and with particular taste of a different world.
We had a Mezza, a thyme pizza...
The restaurant was empty at the beginning, but other clients arrived after... Might be the summer time...
Just close to downtown. It closes at 9pm.
