We have ate hear on many occasions and have never been disappointed with the food. The meals are always freshly cooked using produce from local suppliers , they are generous portions at a reasonable price . I recently had the home made steak and ale pie , and it was probably the best i have ever tasted.

At £68 per night for B&B in Room 1 with private bathroom along the landing this was adequate. On entering, the room had a musty aroma, possibly a bit damp? The walls and floors are very thin so there was a lot of noise in the evening from the jolly people in the bar below but it was quiet by around 10.30 pm so no great problem for us. Furnishing and decoration is elderly and basic but the bed comfortable and clean. Nice view over beer garden. Service was always polite, cheerful and friendly. Breakfast was excellent. Plenty of free parking behind pub in an area where parking is scarce and sometimes expensive. A nice old English inn and a good base for visiting the area.

Room Tip: Room 1 has a basin but no shower or toilet, but this is clear on the booking form.

Our visit to Cornwall was short, only four days and was a combination of business & pleasure. We had been recommended to stay at "The Earl of Chatham" and we were not disappointed. The breakfasts were excellent and whilst we only had dinner one night the Steak & Ale pie was easily the best we had ever eaten. Bearing in mind the building was very old the room was very comfortable with excellent shower and a good TV, so always remember, if the locals like it then it's good, hope to stay again the next we come to Cornwall.

Room Tip: chose the on-suite

This Inn is good value for money and conveniently located for visiting the surrounding area particularly as it has off road parking. The room was adequate although the bed was too big for the room as one side of it was up against the wall. A smaller bed would have made it easier to access. A good bed, however, with nice clean bed linen and lovely soft and fluffy white towels. The carpets up the stairs and in the bar areas could have done with a good clean and it did all smell a bit musty. The breakfast was very good and the staff were friendly and efficient.

Visited for lunch with family members, good food and we were surprised that as vegetarians we could actually have a choice, so many places don't bother and only have one dish but we had lots of options. The service was really good too, nice atmosphere and would recommend to anyone,
