    We have enjoyed a very comfortable few days at Earls. We were very impressed at the presentation and cleanliness of the apartment. An absolute bonus is the guest lounge that is provided for early arrivals or late checkouts when you no longer have your room. This lounge has shower facilities and you can make a cup of tea and relax in this lovely room. The owners John and Kathy have thought of everything. Very friendly and helpful and always available to pick up or drop off to restaurants or to and from the airport. The room staff were extremely friendly and nothing too much trouble. The rooms were private and were beautifully set out. Each room has it's own outdoor seating area and a wonderful bbq where we enjoyed a casual dinner at 'home'. Thank you to everyone at Earls for a very happy stay.

    My husband and I just returned from a week here and we REALLY loved our stay at Earl's Anchorage. Here is why it's so good- 1. You can rack up your meals and purchases at their restaurant down the road by the same name and pay one bill at the end of your stay (very handy) 2. The spacious and private (all stand alone buildings) bungalows are very comfortable 3. Wifi included in the price (so you can brag to everyone on facebook each night) 4. There is a washing machine (so you don't have to take home dirty laundry 5. Fully equipped kitchen (to cook the fish you can catch with minimal effort) 6. Backpack provided for your daily adventures 7. at end of the boardwalk connected bungalows there is a short bushwalk down to the bike hire place 8. Bike racks to store necessary bikes 9. Close to everything you need/ want to visit (shops/ Restaurants/ Ned's beach/ Middle beach/ lagoon) but far enough away that it is SUPER QUIET. 10. telephone in room to call for restaurant reservations (mobile wont work on LHI) the only thing that bugged me was the noisy sheets- you know the luxury cotton kind, but then again I am a very light sleeper and used to jersey sheets that are absolutely silent so, you know, first world problems right? The hill you have to navigate along Anderson road on the bike wasn't too bad and definitely helps to tone up the legs. Would stay here again in a heart beat.

    Firstly a big thanks to Melissa and her team who looked after the housekeeping - these lovely ladies really make the place - very friendly and helpful and they couldn't do enough to make our stay comfortable and enjoyable.

    The setting here is tranquil and beautiful and our 2 bedroom unit was very large and having 2 bathrooms was useful. Great to have some good quality tea and coffee offered, and the back packs available were handy.

    Our 2 bedroom unit was double booked for the first night of our visit but the mistake was graciously acknowledged and alternative arrangements were made for us.

    I agree with previous reviewers that the location of Earls at the top of the hill could be problematic for some. It was a bit of a chore for us to have to lug all of our food supplies each day up the hill on our bikes (there are only a few cars to hire on the island - and best to pre book bikes and cars as these were all booked out when we visited in high season)

    There is no phone reception on the island and it would have been helpful to have free access to local calls from the land line at the unit to make bookings and enquiries. We paid over $1200 per night for our accommodation so I was a little annoyed at being charged extra for local phone calls to the Anchorage restaurant to change our bus pick up times for dinner.

    We'd love to go back to LHI one day but would probably stay somewhere a bit more central and hire a car for the first day or two to pick up food supplies and get around to some of the more remote parts of the island.

    We are pleased to read that overall you enjoyed your stay with us at Earl's Anchorage, we are also disappointed to read some of your feedback.

    To address a few of your concerns - when booking direct with Earl's Anchorage, we always advise of the challenges with bikes/cars during peak season and recommend booking this well in advance of travel. Generally, Agents will always also be aware of this. We apologise if this was not communicated to you prior to travel.

    While we absolutely love to provide added bonus where possible to make our guests stay more comfortable, I am sure you can appreciate that phone calls cannot be included as free of charge as this is an added cost to our business. We have implemented this standard policy in line with the overwhelming majority of hotels and guest houses globally. We apologise that this small charge was disappointing enough to mention this in your review.

    What a beautiful place this is!! Special Thank you to ''John & Kathy'' for your amazing hospitality during our stay! Special thanks to ''Melissa'' for her advice on what to do around the beautiful island! Also like to thank the housekeeping ladies for doing a remarkable job on keeping the place immaculate!!. You guys are just wonderful! You made us feel special. John & Kathy, Thank you for arranging sunset drinks and canapes on Christmas Eve! That was such a beautiful gesture! much appreciated! Good times, good company, one of the best nights we've ever had!!
    Bay of Fires Pinot Gris is my fav wine now! :) hahaha

    This is a gem of a place! Clean, wonderful location, comfy beds, great hosts! The place was kept spotless and the staff were amazing at what they do!

    I highly recommend Earls Anchorage for anyone wanting a great holiday!! The restaurant makes the best coffee and the best king fish ever!

    Will be back soon! This time we might stay there for good!!! :)))

    A well appointed comfortable 2 bedroom unit set amongst the rainforest. LHI is the most picturesque island with so many things to do, no trip would ever be disappointing. The apartment is serviced daily and we couldn’t speak more highly of the service staff who were absolutely lovely and friendly and who allowed us to stay in our unit past checkout as we came down with a bug (or food poisoning)the last two days of our trip.

    What you need to know:
    1. It is a 15 minute walk to get anywhere, and the return trip requires you to walk uphill. This would be ok for most people however we had a pregnant woman, someone with a broken leg and someone who had an operation before the trip so it always felt like an effort/ chore to get down to have a coffee, lunch etc. or go to the bay for a snorkel. Great for those who are active and happy to get around. If this doesn’t suit you there are other accomodation options down on the flat section closer to all the action.

    2. The only place on the island with aircon, this may appeal to some.

    3. If you have booked a package that has included $700+ worth of food at the anchorage lucky you. If you haven’t expect to pay $7 for extra milk when you ask for extra from the restaurant for cereal. We thought they were kindly giving us some and then there it was added to our bill when we paid for our meal. This left a bad taste in our mouth when we were already paying $950 a night. This needs to be reviewed by management.

    4. There is a service at night where staff will pick you up and take you to where you have booked dinner and the restaurant that you dine at will return you home. This work really well and staff are always on time. We never stood around waiting. I take my hat off to restaurant staff leaving their service to provide this service. There were a few times at the Anchorage though where you felt like you were being rushed out the door at the end of your meal when wait staff would come and tell you 4 times while you’re enjoying coffee that they were ready to take us back.

    5. The food at the restaurant was fabulous, make sure to eat there. Service a bit hit and miss, long waits and missed orders, we dined here quite a bit and witness quite a few cranky customers, but with that view what’s the rush.

    6. People walking past the unit do stare in as others have commented, but this was only a couple of times a day so was ok.

    Overall a lovely peaceful place to stay, we would book again if we were a healthier fitter bunch.

    We are also disappointed to read some of your feedback.

    The location of Earl' Anchorage is a easy walk from beaches and amenities. As the only property on Lord Howe Island with a bungalow catering to disabilities, we have a large number of both elderly and guests with accessibility requirements and we have always found the feedback on our location to be favorable. For those guests with more serious accessibility requirements - there are hire cards available for hire through businesses on the Island and as you mention in your review - our team are able to assist where possible.

    The $700 meal inclusion package you mention is available during our off peak season and this package varies depending on the time of year - we do not offer this as added bonus during shoulder or peak season due to high demand.

    It is worthwhile to note that unlimited UHT milk is available to all of our guests free of charge however, should guests wish to have fresh milk (local milk cannot be used as this is not in line with Australian Health Regulations) this is available at a charge as we must airfreight this into Lord Howe Island. While we are always more than happy to go above and beyond to cater to our guests - we must also factor in the costs of running our business in such a remote location.

    With regards to the staff making you feel rushed - I have followed this up with our team and we have taken the feedback on board. However, it is also worthwhile to note that our courtesy bus runs on the half hour from the restaurant so should you miss one bus, there will be wait for the next.
