Stopping in for lunch. Nothing to write home about from outside. Upon entering the front door a smiling rotten halloween pumpkin that was blackened & fallen in on itself greeted me.
I thought - is this a premonition of what's to come?
Greeted kindly & seated promptly.
Again decor lacking, plain and shop worn.
Lunch menu incredible value - most selections $5.95 includes rice, egg roll or soup and a beverage!
Egg roll came and was delightfully filled with shrimp, pork & vegetables. Though it could have been drained better from being fried it was fresh & hot from the kitchen.
The lunch entree - lovely tastey vegetable fried rice.
Sichuan beff ordered MILD on spice - beware here!
Mine arrived hotter *spicier than ever - unedible.
Waitress graciously asked it to be redone in kitchen & apologized to me.
When it came - it is a somewhat smaller portion compared with original order - ? Due to small amount tasted by me first go round?
Second order perfectly seasoned mild with spice and delicious.
So diners - be very emphatic about your "heat level" on spicier dishes.
Will return another time and my overall experience was a good one.
And I liked the fact that most of the other tables had local Asian patrons. This spoke well for the place.

Nice Chinese food and very comfortable environment. The price is a bit expensive and still fair. Good choice to have a try, especially you have a big group of friends to enjoy dinner together.

We visit this gem regularly for our chilli oil fix. Everything we've tasted here is hot, richly spiced and deeply flavored. Not for the faint of heart, many of these authentic Asian preparations feature ingredients not found in your typical Chinese restaurants. Familiar ingredients are transformed into new sensations. One favorite is a whole pork shoulder in a complex, hot sauce served with a huge carving knife stuck into it. Fantastic. This is the perfect place to be adventurous. So far, we haven't had a dish we haven't happily devoured in its entirety. Portions are ample. Prices are very reasonable. Service is well meaning and friendly, but sometimes communications can get jumbled. The whole experience is nevertheless well worth many return visits. Very highly recommended.

Our office goes here to have authentic Chinese Szechwan food. If you like spicy, then this is the place for you. The authentic food is very spicy, but they give you an option on how spicy you would like to have it. Ask the gentleman with glasses to explain to you their dishes, he is very helpful and excited to help.

They also have the normal "American" Chinese menu for those who are afraid to venture to the authentic menu and it is just like the food at any Chinese restaurant.

They restaurant itself is located in the McIntyre Square and isn't the nicest, but the food speaks for itself. I put pictures up of the menus, but their full menu is online (chinastar-pgh.com)

Go here, be bold, and try something new, you might just be surprised!
