Chinese food like what is served in restaurants in mainland China is the reason to eat at China Star. New owner has freshened the interior(lights, furniture, paint) but says the same cooks still work there--this is essential because you should not go there for Chinese-American food but for dishes from the menu page filled with real Chinese dishes. Hot pots, soups with greens and broth, whole fish with the head on, veggies and wonton with hot red chili oil, and my favorite- twice cooked pork belly with peppers and leeks. 2016

This place is easy to miss being in a routine strip mall. The décor is plain but the food is great. Every time I visit, there are Chinese diners - which I consider an endorsement. They do everything well from Sesame Noodles and Moo Shoo to noodle dishes most oriental restaurants do not feature.
My interest in the Chinese Language menu items was warmly received with helpful explanations and recommendations. The Hot Pots are the closest I have come to Szechuan. I don't go there enough.

Went here with family while visiting because of good prior experience. Even they agreed it had gone downhill or something.

Family size bowl of 'home made beef noodle soup' was pretty good. Very spicy, but the beef was very over cooked and it was nothing but the beef and noodles. There was one small green onion hinting that there should be more interesting things in there. Enough for four but we only ate half. Asked for it to go, and looks like server only put half of what was left into container, and forgot to bring it back out until asked.

Crab Rangoon mostly empty pockets of shell.

Scallops and vegetables a huge disappointment. Scallops watery and tasteless. Orange beef another failure. Good sauce, but the beef was sliced do thin it was non existent inside the breading. Dragon and Phoenix was better. Shrimp the best part. Not as temperature hot as could be. Pork (belly) with garlic greens had a great smoked taste, but the greens were leeks.

Complained and got 15% off. Atmosphere lacking. Wouldn't return again.

Stopping in for lunch. Nothing to write home about from outside. Upon entering the front door a smiling rotten halloween pumpkin that was blackened & fallen in on itself greeted me.
I thought - is this a premonition of what's to come?
Greeted kindly & seated promptly.
Again decor lacking, plain and shop worn.
Lunch menu incredible value - most selections $5.95 includes rice, egg roll or soup and a beverage!
Egg roll came and was delightfully filled with shrimp, pork & vegetables. Though it could have been drained better from being fried it was fresh & hot from the kitchen.
The lunch entree - lovely tastey vegetable fried rice.
Sichuan beff ordered MILD on spice - beware here!
Mine arrived hotter *spicier than ever - unedible.
Waitress graciously asked it to be redone in kitchen & apologized to me.
When it came - it is a somewhat smaller portion compared with original order - ? Due to small amount tasted by me first go round?
Second order perfectly seasoned mild with spice and delicious.
So diners - be very emphatic about your "heat level" on spicier dishes.
Will return another time and my overall experience was a good one.
And I liked the fact that most of the other tables had local Asian patrons. This spoke well for the place.

Nice Chinese food and very comfortable environment. The price is a bit expensive and still fair. Good choice to have a try, especially you have a big group of friends to enjoy dinner together.
