My children had never seen the ocean before and this was a great spot to bring them. We spent hours playing in the water, climbing the trees, and searching for seashells. I wish we had more time to go again.

Visiting hunting island was the definite highlight of our trip. We spent two days exploring there. The drive in really does feel like you're in Jurassic park. We parked and walked to the beach and the views are just incredible- I've definitely never seen another beach in the Carolinas that is this beautiful. The beach wasn't crowded either day we were there. The lighthouse is nice- there is a fee to climb up- we were going to go up but children have to be above 44 inches to climb so we weren't able to. The worker there was super friendly and took several pictures of us and let us look around the inside of the bottom of the lighthouse. We also visited the nature center (free- has several animals you can see - fish, turtles, snakes, etc). You can only walk halfway out the pier due to the previous storm damage. We took the scenic nature trail that starts near the nature center - it's short (.7 miles one way) and all flat. It's an easy walk but it leads you to a beach that is full of overturned trees/driftwood etc. we only saw a couple of other people here- it is well worth the walk to explore this area!

We've been here a few times over the past 7 years. It's a great place for the family. Wonderful beaches to walk, nice, mild surf to play in, interesting root, tree and driftwood natural "sculptures" and then there's the lighthouse, too.

Enjoyed biking the roads of Hunting Island. The beach is the high spot! We were surprised at the devastation caused by the last three hurricanes. So many trees down, yet the beauty of this natural wonder shines through. Great marsh boardwalk and the lighthouse are was also of interest. But the beach area is the gem!

I didn't make it here this trip, and I know they sustained some hurricane/storm damage, but it has been a family favorite to visit that shore. They have had informational signs about the beach dynamic and storms moving the sands around. A lot got washed away in the past two years.
Some scenes from Forest Gump were filmed here. It has a jungle feel with black tail deer all around, and the occasional alligator.
