I’d like to warn anyone who is considering the Days Inn in the Historic District of Charleston, S.C. to beware of the scamming towing business occurring there. We woke up our first morning there, only to look outside & notice our car was missing. We were traveling back home from Florida so we had a fully packed car. We immediately thought it had been stolen as we knew we had placed the hotel tag given to us on our dashboard for parking. At the front desk, we were told it could have been towed and were given the towing company’s number. The hotel has a contract with Charleston Towing to tow even their guests cars from their own parking lot. We had to wait until 9 am to call them to find out they did have our car. Then we were told by hotel we had to find our own transportation to get to the towing company some 20 miles away. When we finally got our car back, the towing company said they couldn’t see the date on the placard and charged us $166 to get our car back. We had to return to the hotel in order for the hotel to reimburse us. - why would they have such a policy to tow you & then pay for it, all the while causing their customers all this aggravation. They even made us still pay $17 for the night of parking!! I asked about reimbursement for our Uber trip but they said that was on us. We were told by other staff members & on staff restaurant(Toast) workers that this happens all the time. That same night another woman’s car was towed just because her placard had slid down on the dash.
I told them we would be contacting Tripadvisor, Days Inn & the BBB. After we we left, we were called by the hotel & offered to credit our Uber expense- too little, too late.
This hotel needs a better system to ensure their customers who paid to park there are not towed away. No one from the towing company checked with the desk to see if our car was authorized to be there. They just came in the middle of the night & started towing.
Don’t stay there- they don’t care enough about their customers or they would have already remedied this.
