We truly enjoyed this visit. I learned a lot more than I anticipated. Especially about President Lincoln and the politics surrounding this Fort. Things are not always as they appear. If you like American History go see this Fort.

Fort Sumter is a place to behold. The guides on the ferry as well as those on the site provide a great deal of information about the history of the site and then you have ample time to walk around and witness the history of it with your own eyes. It is quite sobering to see the fortress walls that have been damaged in battle as well as to feel how imposing the whole fort was. The site is very well maintained and is a sheer delight for both military/history buffs as well as photography afficionadoes (like myself).

Fort Sumpter is an important site in American History. Our visit begins with the museum, which is filled with lucid, relevant information. From this starting point, visitors are taken on an interesting narrated boat ride across the harbor to the fort. The site is well-maintained, and the park rangers and volunteers on the premises are well-informed and entertaining. There is more signage and information there than one can absorb before it is time to board the boat for the return journey. The entire site is very well done and it rates as a must see.

This is a very historic site, dating back to revolutionary times, and the site of the 1st shot of the civil war. There is much to learn, and a good bit of the original fort is still here. The museum has some memorabilia to check out, including an original US and Confederate flags. And the ranger who led our tour did a great job.

Only accessed by boat And crowded in tourist season especially on a sunny Spring Day. History buffs and students of war will love it.
