We were celebrating our 24th wedding anniversary and I must say I gained some major husband points with my wife by booking here. This is a very quaint Inn with gas lights on the outside, ivy covered brick and very close to shops, restaurants and within walking distance to anything you want to see.

Parking is slightly confusing as you park behind the hotel but upon arriving onto King Street just call and they will guide you to the parking area. Getting complimentary room service each morning for breakfast was fantastic. Even though it is an older building and has a slight Victorian nostalgic feel it has all the modern amenities that you would need.

The staff was very kind, coffee downstairs each morning, room service for breakfast and the afternoon wine and cheese made this place very charming, romantic and would certainly book here again.

We started staying at the Fulton Lane Inn 23 years ago when if first opened. It was a pioneer on King Street and a gem.

After a hiatus, we returned this weekend to a disappointing scene. While King Street has flourished and grown, the Fulton Lane Inn has grown worn, having not been updated and being poorly maintained. You can tell that the owner is just trying to cash flow this property and not put anything back in to it.

I wanted a nice room so I reserved a two room suite. What a disaster. The living room has no windows! But of course, the hotel doesn’t disclose this. True deceit.

When we entered the room, we were knocked over by the chlorine fumes from the cleansers used. The smell never dissipated over the next 40 hours, although we had all fans going at all times. We didn’t allow housekeeping in to our room so that they couldn’t poison us further. It was so awful to have to be in that room. The sleep was treacherous.

The suite has only one bathrobe (Seriously? In an expensive suite?) and there are no drapes or blackout shades. It needs fresh paint and fresh caulking. The mid 90s bathroom is not to par for the price; it is dated and tired. And the windowless living room was so depressing that we never went into the room except to enter and depart. What a waste of money.

Even the bed valence was torn, as shown in the photo. God forbid that someone should pull out a needle and thread and make a repair.

The toilet isn’t bolted to the floor, either. It made a crash every time we sat on it.

When we left this morning, we came out of the elevator and were just going to place our keys on the desk because the desk attendants were essentially unconscious during our entire stay. But she woke up and said, “Checking out?” So we had to stop. “How was your stay?”

“Not so great,” was my response.

She replied with, “Oh, I am so glad to hear that.”

Enough said.

I apologize that you were disappointed regarding your suite. While this suite is normally very popular with guests, we do offer suites with floor to ceilings or large windows that may have better suited your needs. Last year, rooms were updated with new furniture, flat screen TVs and modern marble countertops in the bathrooms. In speaking with our Front Desk attendant, she misheard your comment. Had she heard you correctly she would have welcomed your feedback to see how our team could do better. Our staff strives to provide excellent customer service with every guest stay.

This little inn is snuggled in the heart of downtown Charleston. As hotel prices continue to rise and traffic continues to increase, this lovely inn is actually a bargain. You can walk to anything in the historic district. The rooms are lovely and well appointed. They actually have nice artwork on the walls vs the junk you're finding on all the hotels trying to be trendy. There is a parking lot connected to the inn. There is a $14 charge/day but that is less that others in the area and far more convenient. Included in the rate is a very nice happy hour with nice wines and cheeses in a wonderful little courtyard where you will meet happy fellow travelers. Best of all, an impressive continental breakfast is also included and they bring it to your room! There is lower price lodging outside the historic district but once you start adding up breakfast, happy hour, travel frustration and parking scarcity you'll find Fulton is a real deal. To top your evening, you can walk across the street to the Fulton Five, one of the best restaurants in the area.

Room Tip: A view of King Street is fun. Some rooms also have great jet tubs and kitchenettes.

Charleston seems like an expensive destination regarding lodging or perhaps it was due to the fact that it was the Mother’s Day week-end coupled with graduations. Seemed like a lot of money for what we got i.e.$370 US per night (cold breakfast included)…but other lodging situated in the historic district, weren’t better on our dates if not worst.
We could have stayed outside the historic district for much cheaper, but were happy we didn’t, as we would have missed out on a lot.
The Inn is very well located, at the outer end of the historic district, on King Street (main shopping street) one block from Market St. The room was well appointed. It faced onto Charles street and except for the odd car racing down the street which happened once each night during our stay, it was quiet. We were told we got upgraded to a mini suite, which I doubted, but the real plus was a whirlpool which my husband is used to indulging in at home and was nice after our very long walks through Charleston.
Breakfast served in room, is very pleasant! No warm offerings but cooked eggs, yogurt, granola, juices, bagels, english muffins, sweet basket. The night before you mark what you would like delivered. If you would rather eat in a dining area you may do so next door. Fulton Inn does not offer dining facilities but as an arrangement with the King’s Courtyard Inn next door.
The place is hard to find but with Susu being pro-active and sending us in advance detailed directions we did not have too much difficulty (the GPS was also very helpful).
The Inn has an arrangement with the public parking behind, very convenient, $14 per day.
Also noteworthy, the Inn has an agreement with the upscale restaurant Circa 1886. For $49 you get a good choice of three courses meal on the menu…some worth over $30 for the main only. We were glad we took advantage of this offer.

Stayed one night while in Charleston on business. Excellent location on King Street, walkable to everything of interest. Friendly staff, easy check-in, huge room. Large windows looked out onto the street, huge bathroom. Breakfast was brought to the room on a tray (you fill out a menu card and leave it on your door the night before, indicating the time you'll be up and hungry). More casual might have been nice. Wine and appetizer reception in the adjacent sister hotel was nice, with a friendly young bartender (bonus points to him for warm service). Overall, terrific experience.

Minor concerns: I was traveling on business and didn't choose this hotel, so I can't say if the prices are competitive. The market in central Charleston must be fierce, and this hotel is not the super-charming building that one might find elsewhere. The lobby is in the back, a side door off an alley. I was indifferent to this, but for a honeymoon or romantic weekend, you might find something comparable with an even higher level of charm. Also, during my short stay there, the cleaning staff were doing major vacuuming and carpet cleaning in the hallway between 6 and 7pm, at a time of day when I was trying to relax in the room before dinner, and there was an awful ammonia smell in the hallway. There must have been a spill or incident, but the timing and unpleasantness of this were terrible. Annoying noise plus smell in the evening. Otherwise, excellent experience. I might stay here again, if the price were particularly competitive, or Charleston could be a fun place to shop around and try other hotels.
