Our hotel recommended the Charleston Grill for our Anniversary dinner and it did not disappoint. We had requested a table off to the side and that is what we got. The menu is pricey, but the food was delicious. I had the flounder and shrimp and the fish was flaky, perfectly seasoned and just the right size. My husband had the pork chop and he was very happy with the selection. The wait staff was very helpful and everything was top notch when it came to service. I don't really think this is a kid friendly place, but we saw a few kids in there. Most of the people we saw had to be celebrating something or out for a date night. I would recommend this restaurant for anyone wanting a five star experience.

I had high expectations given the Charleston Grill’s reputation, but I left disappointed. It’s certainly elegant in a classic sense, and the service was personal and impeccable. The food, however, was less than stellar. The menu’s division into “Pure,” “Lush,” “Cosmopolitan,” and “Southern” is a bit confusing because only “Southern” has an understood (though extremely broad) meaning. I began with the octopus salad from the “Pure” list, and it was slightly overcooked. The flounder from the “Southern” list was substantially overcooked, and was overwhelmed by the bland beans. I was looking forward to the Carolina rice, but there was too little of it to make a difference to the dish. Others in my group were more satisfied, but I was underwhelmed. My sorbets for dessert were nothing special. Finally, the live band was a nice touch, but we sat so close and they played so loudly that conversation was difficult. On the whole, the experience was a let down.

We had an outstanding experience on all levels the first time we dined here. The food was excellent as were the wines (served at the right temperature ) and the servers were attentive and pleasant.
When we found ourselves passing through Charleston again, we looked forward to another dinner there. Although the food was again excellent, the service before and during our meal left much to be desired. It's never a good sign when your waiter seems as though he's doing you a favor by taking your order or answering questions about a special. As might be expected, the rest of the meal didn't get much better on that end. In sharp contrast to that another person who may have been the manager, sommelier??? came to our table a few times just gushing over us but totally phoney. This all made for an unpleasant experience. Haven't been back since and only hope this was an experiment of some sort on front of the house hiring.
The first experience and great food will make us go back on our next trip through Charleston if only to chalk up our last time there as a one off. Hopefully it was.
