Owner description: Pan for gold in this historic gold mining area.

The kids enjoyed panning for gold and were thrilled to take their keepsakes home. The tour of the mine was very interesting and really put you back in the time of the Black Hills Gold Rush.

We visited the Mine in August whilst staying in Deadwood. We walked from town which took us 20 minutes. It was an interesting tour if you have an hour to kill.

In a touristy town, this is a tourist stop for sure. But it's a fairly good one. I agree with other reviewers that it's a little bit pricey (we didn't do the gold panning though). However, we had one member of our family that really wanted to go so we all went.

The tour was actually pretty interesting. Guide was a college kid, but he knew his stories and answered all questions well, I thought. Tour is only about 40-45 minutes so you don't have to take major time out of your day. Like all caves, it's cool inside so it was nice to get out of the sun for an hour. Cave actually was used as a movie setting back in the 50's and it was neat hearing the stories about that.

Yes, it looks like a tourist trap on the outside, and I guess it is. But I felt like we got our money's worth.
