Owner description: Raccoon Mountain Caverns is located just 1.3 miles off of I-24 at the Lookout Valley exit (#174), and is less than ten minutes from downtown Chattanooga. Visitors are presented with a cave in its natural state and our 45-minute (+/-) Crystal Palace Walking Tour allows them to view thousands of diverse formations - stalagtites, stalagmites, delicate soda straws, flowstone, rimstone pools, draperies, columns, natural bridges, and a rare shield formation. We also offer a variety of wild cave "spelunking" expeditions for those who want to view beyond the lighted pathways and explore deeper into the mountain. Our Waterfall Dome expedition permits visitors to view the areas tallest underground, natural (unassisted) flowing waterfall.

We completed the canyon crawl adventure with our six year old daughter and it was a great time. Our guide, Justin, was very knowledgeable, helpful and patient (there were three families with a total of 8 kids). My husband and I had previously completed a strenuous caving expedition in Puerto Rico and found this to be challenging but not too difficult. If you do anything other than the walking tour, you will get muddy but there are showers available after your adventure. Make sure to bring close toed shoes with good grip, a change of shoes, clothes, a towel and toiletries. It was a lot of fun and we will definitely go back!

Our family which included 5 kids ages 9-16 and 4 adults did the 2 hour tour they the caves.. what a truly great experience... everyone had a blast! Our tour guide was very knowledgeable and made the tour super fun with so many details. We had so much fun crawling thru caves , at times the crawl spaces were tight but totally doable and added a lot of adventure.. I highly recommend this tour..

Justin was an amazing guide spelunking all over Raccoon Caverns. Really knew the cave and helped me conquer my fear of heights. Very patient. You will get head to toe muddy!

This was an awesome birthday event for my 3 boys in their early 20's. It is not the "tourist trap" like others. We were amazed by the "adventure" built into this 3 hour event which took us over deep crevaces, through extremely tight spaces crawling on our bellies and wide open caverns that were breathtaking. This trip was well worth the time and money and we made wonderful memories that most 20 year olds will never get to do. Spelunking has been checked off of their bucket list. Thanks for the Google Photos that will help us to remember this awesome day!!!

We did the Echo Cave Tour with Ashley as our guide. She did a great job and really showed us how to maneuver in the cave. We have done wild cave tours before, but this was the most enjoyable. It was fun for all levels of cave expertise.

If you go be prepared to be muddy and tired, it’s a messy fun workout, but worth it.

They let you clean up in the bathhouses afterwards which is nice.

The campgrounds look great and I stayed there years ago and can tell they’ve done a nice job upgrading.
