Nice area, lots of history. The relief map showing the Battle of Franklin under the covered shelter is interesting. Nice walking trail.

This is the location where John Bell Hood met with his generals to decide whether or not to attack Union forces at Franklin during the Civil War. There's a great bronze map helping show the items you are looking at. That was the coolest thing for me. There are also memorials to the confederate troops who fought in the battle and the generals who died during it. That was the first area of this park, which is farther up the hill. As you go down the hill, there is a really nice paved path to walk on and enjoy the courtryside. If I wasn't interested in the Civil War, I would have enjoyed the park for that wonderful walk itself. There were only two other small groups there when I visited, so it was the perfect place to take a walk at the end of the day, being in nature, burning off the big tasty dinner I'd just had while relaxing.
The parking lot was definitely spacious enough for way more than the amount of people there. Since the walkways were paved, it would have been a decent place to come with someone with some mobility issues. About the only concern was if the road was busy, it might be a challenge to get out of, but I had not problems.

I certainly wouldn't put this at the top of my "to visit" list but it's a quaint little park on a hill with some good Civil War history.
If you're in Franklin and interested in the Civil War, I'd say it's worth taking an hour to go over hear and read the history.

There are several monuments winding up a small hill. 4 of the monuments are dedicated to the generals that were killed in the Battle of Franklin. At the top of the hill is an overlook where Hood watched his Confederate troops marching toward town. It is only a brief stop, but great piece of history and interesting viewpoint of the battle. Definitely recommend if you are interested in the Battle of Franklin.

This was the observation location of Gen Hood as he watched his troops deploy and attack the Federal forces defending Franklin. A number of state monuments are located here as well as information about the battle.
