Really wanted to give this pub a good review. On entering the pub it's like stepping into another world, full of character, mugs and chamber pots hanging from the ceiling, a parrot, warm with a lovely coal fire burning in the bar. Alas, that's where the good experience ended. My wife had a Guinness which she said tasted nothing like it and I had a real ale which was cloudy and sour! I should have complained but thought it might just have been us but having discussed the matter with a few locals in another pub it seems that is a regular complaint. It's a shame because this pub could be so good.

We had peered through the windows of this wonderful place every day during our stay, but looked close, and saw it was up for sale. Lo and behold, on our last night the lights were on, went inside, but no signs of human life! A dog and a parrot, and strange noises off, and a couple of days before Halloween it was really spooky. Finally the lovely landlady appeared from washing her socks (!) and said she might be open if we came back later. Which we did, and the place was seething with all the local fishermen and others, 1960's music and a quite unique incredible atmosphere. I hope whoever buys the place doesn't change a thing - a fabulous time warp experience.

As soon as we walked in to this pub, it felt so welcoming and homely! It was like stepping back in time. It is a traditional pub and the landlady has been there a lifetime. If you are going to visit - do it soon as it is up for sale. I only hope the next owner will keep it as it is. It would be a shame to change it into what other pubs are like. This is a truly authentic traditional olde worlde pub with lots of character. We wish Pat all the very best of luck in selling this pub so that she can retire and spend time with her loved ones.
