Excellent walk, excellent cafe with local produce. If you are a National Trust member and have your card you can park for free.

Having had lunch in the cafe, we thought we had better have a gentle walk before leaving. The scenery here is great with the river Bovey running through the grounds. There are 3 way marked walks available although I walk with a stick and so we went on the shortest walk, about 30 mins which took me 45/50mins. Start which took us along the river for a while then across a water meadow to join the old railway line for the trip back.. I would make sure you are wearing appropriate footwear. We probably were not and so got wet feet. The other two walks have steep inclines.
A very pleasant day out. Free to enter but non members pay £2 to park the car.

Great place to go for a walk but if you’re following a gluten free diet don’t expect to be able to enjoy a nice cake with a cuppa. It was a real let down that the only offering is a gluten free brownie. Considering the cafe is on a National Trust site I would at least expect a gluten free scone or lemon drizzle cake too ☹️

What can I say to justify this amazing place....great concept of no rush great quality dining experience, everyone eats at set time so the table is yours all evening.
Fantastic surroundings and exceptional service and all the food is local, what more can you ask.
Then there’s the price, under £100.00 for 4 people having a 3 course meal..this place is in my top 3 BEST places to eat in the world

Thank julie s

Lovely sunny walk with great cake and coffee to finish. The cafe has a great variety of fresh cakes and scones on offer and a good selection of places to sit. Dog and family friendly. Small point but the loos desperately need attention. They are quite honestly the most awful loos I’ve had to visit in a long time. They really need a good whitewash and some damp treatment. It is a shame how family friendly the place is but there is no way you’d want to change a nappy in those toilets.
