A great cottage for elderly grandparents, middle aged parents and grown up children with ground floor bedroom and bathroom for the oldies, and upstairs bedrooms for middlies and youngsters. Kay provided a really welcome and unexpected basket of scones, cream, jam, nibbles and (most importantly) milk and tea bags for a really needed cuppa. Kay was also very helpful in allowing us to cancel/postpone a previous booking at last minute due to extreme snow, and boy was the weather different this time. A delightful and well equipped cottage, close to the sea, in a very nice village with all you need locally (pubs x 2 and local shop plus antique stores).
Our second wonderful stay at Squirrel Cottage over a sunny April week couldn’t have been better. Having stayed at the cottage for 3 weeks in the summer we knew what to expect – a home from home. The layout of the cottage really lends itself to a family, extended family, or a group of friends stay. The cottage has a bedroom (twin/double downstairs) which lends itself to those less able to use the stairs – or a teenager who wants their own space (with their own TV) and two double rooms upstairs. The beds are comfortable, the bath and shower work well.
The kitchen has more than everything you need, the lounge/dining room is a wonderful space, with a TV and DVD with selection of films to watch and books to read including local guides. The cottage is wonderfully clean, we had lilies and daffodils provided along with a lovely welcome basket, tea, coffee, milk, washing powder, washing up liquid, dishwasher tablets, soap, hairdryers, iron, toys, nice soft towels…honestly, it’s the perfect set-up to just turn up and relax.
If you travel with a dog, the courtyard area is really secure and a lovely warm suntrap for outdoor eating and relaxing. Access to the cottage is via a cul-de-sac with plenty of space to park within metres of the door, the neighbours are friendly and welcoming.
Woodbury itself is a nice village with a couple of pubs, a Chinese takeaway and a few shops (cash machine in the local store/post office all within a few minutes walk. A couple of play areas for children within a short walk from the cottage. Great local beaches and pubs a short drive away as well as some fantastic walks.
Highly recommended.
Cottage is charming with every amenity and a genuine helpful and conciencious owner. Good location - can walk to estuary path and up to Exeter or down to Exmouth or drive some of the trip. We hit all weather - sun and warmth to 6 inches of snow in a few days in March.
Only slight drawback is parking - not an issue just need to park on the road.
Chris and I have been staying at Squirrel Cottage for many years. The cottage is always immaculate, with fresh flowers in the rooms and a welcome basket to tide you over till you can shop. We like to walk from Otterton Mill to Budleigh and the coast paths nearby. A little drive away takes you to the stunning landscapes of Dartmoor. Woodbury itself is a lovely sleepy little village and on a Sunday morning when the church bells chime it almost feels like you've stepped back in time.
