“Immersive and hands on, great afternoon!”

Edinburgh Butterfly & Insect World
Reviewed 2 April 2018 via mobile

Had been some years ago when kids were smaller but with a 6 and 9 year old it was a great afternoon with a couple of hours of entertainment. Although small and quite busy as it was school holidays, absolutely loads of butterflies of all different types to see and spot, facts signposted everywhere and really lovely displays. Repitiles and insects too were great. Kids favourite part was definitely handling time, they got to hold a snake, a tarantula and a millipede! The handlers were lovely, very knowledgeable and great with the kids, and obviously cared an awful lot about the animals they were handling. Although a bit on the pricey side at £26 for our family of four the kids really loved it.

Spent a cold afternoon here amongst the butterflies and other animals!! Lovely warm room with tropical plants and butterflies everywhere. Through the back is all the other animals including snakes and spiders, geckos and other insects. We stayed to watch the animals being fed including some lovely chickens and the staff were very friendly and took time to explain things and took the time to interact with our daughter. The shop is very basic but some of the toys are extremely expensive which is disappointing to kids and parents!!

Popped along on our daughter's first birthday - Enjoyable visit. Plenty to see. Staff knowledgeable and friendly. Will definitely come back when daughter is older and able to appreciate this more.

Came here for my son's 3rd birthday and we all very much enjoyed our visit. Front of house staff were rather surly, but the staff inside were nice and informative. My son thoroughly enjoyed himself and was fascinated by all the beasties and enjoyed the handling. Would highly recommend this place.

Came here with my Girlfriend as she had never been before. Prices to get in are reasonable for what there is to do. The lady at the cashier was very welcoming and pleasant which set the scene nicely. The place is lovely with lots to see. The main room is a humid with lots of butterflies flying around, tortoises in a small pond and quails free roaming around the place. There were many species and colours of butterflies around which are amazing to watch and you can see their pupa which look amazing. The tortoises are great to watch and their is a giant one in his own pen which the staff bring out for the kids to see. Watch out for the quails as I almost stood on one, poor thing. Next is the reptile and insect rooms which are full of interesting beasties and snakes which are cool to watch. Friendly staff are on hand to answer any questions.

Overall, this is a great place to visit for adults and children alike.
