The hotel has changed hands in 2017, and has had a make-over. The restaurant has been well decorated and has a really good atmosphere. They also have a private dining room which would be great for family meals etc. however the only thing that lets the place down is the portion sizes. Following my first meal there, I have spoken to a number of people who have eaten in the new refurbished restaurant and they all say the same. Great place, great food but the portions are not the best. If fact one of my kids had one of the kids meals and it was much larger than the adults meals. Maybe I’m greedy, but when others say the same thing it’s obviously their ploy. Smaller portions in the main meals and get them to order more dishes.

We booked this as a short birthday breakaway having heard that it was a new venture in the very capable ownership of Hans Rissmann who has an impressive track record in hospitality in Scotland. The hotel is undergoing a major revamp and upgrade but what's been done already is very impressive. The newly-opened bar and restaurant is wonderful, enhanced by superior service and a superb menu. Dinner was splendid and matched only by a lovely breakfast the following day. Work is ongoing to bring the bedrooms up to the same standard and we look forward to returning in the very near future.

I stayed here on business and was really impressed with the renovations and refurbishment that is ongoing. The team are warm and welcoming, the bedrooms comfortable and cosy, and the bar and dining areas are contemporary with a designer feel. Dinner and breakfast were delicious and excellent value for money. Under the new ownership this hotel is going to go from strength to strength. I am looking forward to my next visit.

I had high expectations for the newly refurbished restaurant and it is lovely it’s just a shame the staff don’t seem to have been trained to a high standard and the food lacks any kind of inspiration it’s almost the same menu as it has been the last 20 years although it is presented on nice new plates it’s the same hum drum food. The prices have certainly spiked to help pay for the extensive refurbishment of the hotel but on this visit I doubt I will be helping to that fund anymore such a let down for a new beginning for a strathaven stalwart.

The Strathaven Hotel under the management of Hans Rissemen and his family is a breath of fresh air in a beautiful rural environment. The Hotel has had a huge refurbishment and is absolutely stunning inside. The restaurant serves fantastic food sourced from local providers and will not disappoint. The attention to detail makes you feel special and a much appreciated guest. This is a perfect venue for functions too recently attended a McTears Valuation event and it was a huge success, all staff attendtive and considerate. A must visit when in Lanarkshire.

Room Tip: Rooms are all well presented
