Cafe Fish say the only thing frozen are their fishermen. Well, we have proof of that when a soaked and cold-looking fisherman stepped off a boat with a bucket of fish and took it straight to the kitchen.
Yes, the fish is that fresh and it is undoubtedly locally-sourced. Sadly, we had not done our homework and but luckily happened upon Cafe Fish by accident. The accident was that it started to rain heavily and we were standing next to the stairs leading to Cafe Fish.
We're grateful for the rain as it would have been a crime to leave this picture-postcard harbour village without visiting. It was the UK Fish Restaurant of the Year and Scotland's leading fish food outlet and it shows.
It is situated on the first floor of the ferry terminal and was formerly the ferry waiting room. It is unpretentious but has bags of atmosphere.
And the food? Sensational. My fish stew was out of this world, packed with content and flavour.
My wife's soup, lentil but not as you know it, was exceptional. Don't miss this place. It's been open for over a decade, remains family run and it is fun, boasting superb food.
