We booked this expecting decent pub grub. What a pleasant surprise, this was way better than average, the food was excellent. Every dish our party had was excellent. The menu was superb, huge choice. We absolutely loved our dinner was best I have had in a while. The chicken pie was particularly awesome. If you are in this area do not miss this treat.

I highly recommend this place purely for the barmans banter - and the young lady staff who directed me to the gents. Glad the staff has a sense of humour 10/10

Next time we head this area. Definitely booking a room

On our way back to Derbyshire after visiting the Isle of Skye, we stayed at the Arrochar Hotel along the road but were dubious about eating there so headed along the loch to the Village Inn. Right choice!
There was a good choice of ales and we spent several hours (involving several drinks) in the bar chatting to a friendly guest (hello Mike!) and a member of staff - the gorgeous Edith. It felt like a home-from-home.
The restaurant was almost fully booked, and apparently is every night due to its popularity. Service was a little slow due to the numbers present but it was worth the wait. My en papillote dish containing bream, mullet and whiting was perfect and my wife demolished her fish and chips.
If we're ever in the area again we will not only eat at the Village Inn, but will stay there too. We honestly couldn't fault the place.
P.S. Special mention for Andy's trousers - loved those bad boys!

Lovely setting on the bank of Loch Long with outdoor seating but beware of the midges they are rife!!! We had a room on 1st floor facing the loch. It was a hot night and the window had limited opening so I am very glad I had packed a portable electric fan. No window in the ensuite. Nice touch in room was a Tunnoch caramel bar and snowball on tea tray :) We ate in the restaurant and it was very busy and manic as they were short staffed so the service was slow. I went and got our drinks myself from the bar. I had haggis, neeps & tatties and the portions were small. Tasty pub grub. On our way up to bed at 10pm we saw them setting out the breakfast bar!!! Cereals were covered with cling film but a large bowl of fresh fruit was not! We had a very nice cooked Scottish breakfast the next morning. No service on mobile phone :(

Room Tip: Ask for loch view

Difficult to rate for me, I’m torn between a bad and a good verdict. I’ll go with 3 out of 5 stars instead of 4 or 5, here’s why…

We were on a road trip, and needed a room. We booked this place as it looked nice. Upon arrival, no problem, friendly staff. We checked in and arrived at our room, and were greeted with a bad and strong odour.

We dropped our suitcases and went to get some food. The food was good, staff was friendly.
We went back into our room, and it still smelled so bad. So, we went back and talked to one of the staff about the bad smell. They immediately offered us a different room, in a little house behind the Inn. So we checked it out, and accepted. Then we asked the lady to join us in the other room and check out the smell. Perhaps it was just the smell of their deterrent, who knows... she immediately recognised the strong smell as mould and apologized.

That they immediately gave us a different room without them verifying our complaint, I find very good. That’s the way things are supposed to go. So thumbs up on that one. But… What annoyed me the most; I assume we were not the first people to arrive in this room in ages, there must have been other guests and personnel which cleans the room. Ergo, they must have known they had mould. Yet they still rent the room to people. And this I find very unfair.

Both rooms looked nice, even though there are some minor things they might need to look at.
I slept good, the bed looked clean – I even checked underneath the sheets. The place gives a comfy and home feeling.
